On the one hand, I think Cody Johnston is making a really great case about the right completely throwing empathy out the window and their hypocrisy. On the other hand, I can’t stop chuckling about the part at 32:10 when he calls Joe Rogan some kind of claymation gourd.

ETA: my bad, I couldn’t read the Bloomberg article and was scratching my head about the quick closure. He visited the factory in 2017 after that first 100 days of terror. The private equity owners later shut it down and moved production to China.

My friend who is a deprogrammed former-MAGAt was talking about fentanyl when we were driving to a fishing spot the other day. He was talking about how terrible fentanyl is and how it’s killing 300,000 Americans every year. I was driving and gave him one of those record-scratch double-takes when he said that. I told him it wasn’t even in the top 10 causes of death in the US, that #1 and #2 are heart disease and cancer and that fentanyl overdose deaths are about on par with firearms. If you think fentanyl overdoses are an emergency that we need to suspend civil rights over, then by the numbers you have to say the same thing about firearms.
He went into thinking mode after that one. We’ll see what comes up next time. But it’s clear that RW media is really playing up the fentanyl-as-national-emergency to manufacture consent for the immigration crackdown. Ironically, the tariff shitshow and empty ports might actually reduce fentanyl overdoses, since the primary source of illegal fentanyl is through shipping, not border crossings.
