The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 1)

Here’s good description of why Canada’s election system can’t be rigged.

I voted in the advance polls. My ID was checked, I was given a slip of paper with six or seven names on it, and I went behind a screen where there was a pencil (sometimes a pen, doesn’t matter). I made an X in the little circle beside the name I wanted to vote for, folded the ballot, and took it back to the elections worker who observed me put it in the ballot box. That was it for me.

Later the ballots were tallied by hand, watched by observers from any of the major parties who wanted to.

This, you may say, is tedious, slow, and primitive af. Thanks for pointing that out. That’s how we like it,

Tread lightly

Aptly named. From a quick skim, for what it’s worth:

Promotes, erm, alternative realities like
It’s impossible that planes caused the damage to the WTC and Pentagon on 9/11, therefore controlled explosions, therefore inside job by the US government to have an excuse to go to war in Iraq and Afghanistan.
COVID was a hoax because reasons.
Vaccines are bad.
And so on.

Strong Querdenker vibes. Their anti-Trump stance seems to be more a result of general Antiamericanism than anything else, and who could personify the proverbial Ugly American better than Trump?

Not a right wing troll, though - a left wing/Green troll. Which would be why their Loforo is a weird mix of objectable (like mentioned above) and unobjectable (like fuck AfD) stuff. The kind of left asshole that makes you think “Whoa, maybe the Horseshoe theory is a thing after all.”

Anyway, just my €0,02.

Nazi Germany surrendered in May 1945. For Americans, the Second World War would rage for three more months, until VJ Day in August. But for Russians and those influenced by them, “Victory Day” falls in May. Trump follows the Russian practice, not the American.

Geez, he even takes something we genuinely should be proud of and celebrate and makes it sound petty, sleazy and insecure. It’s not enough that we won, we won harder than anyone and our allies were useless dead weight and we’re so smart and strong and perfect and blah blah blah… to say nothing of the irony of a fascist cheering the defeat of fascism while simultaneously reviving it. Both the Confederacy and the Nazis defeated the USA in the long run, from the look of things.

The victory that America had the most to do with was the one over Japan, which he is apparently overlooking. It definitely does not deserve the main credit for victory in WW1, though I can hardly call anything to do with that war something to celebrate.

David “Axis of Evil” Frum was still a step on the path that led to this and has not earned forgiveness in my books.

Until proven otherwise, I’m going to assume that Frum’s main point of contention with Drumpf is that all Frum’s hard work to build autocracy in America got hijacked by a reality tv star.

This glorification of ignorance is what we are up against. And ignorance is easy. No effort at all. Knowledge is hard, takes work to understand, and tends to lead to what we like to call “experts.” This makes “doing your own research” much harder and so is roundly rejected. Ignorance for the win! Yay…

Macinzi Morris, a Temu customer who lives in southeastern Missouri, said she ordered a set of succulent pots for $12.25 before the company began raising prices. By Friday, the pots went up to $30, she said.

Morris buys yoga supplies, clothing and a variety of other products from the site “a couple times a month,” but she expects to shop elsewhere now that Temu items are more expensive.

“There’s no point in paying a 140% upcharge when I can get the same thing on Amazon for the same price and usually get it a little faster,” Morris said.

And Amazon won’t tell her the price increases are due to the tariffs.

I’m trying to figure out how Dump voters will blame Biden for all these higher prices.
