The goddamn Trump Administration (Part 1)

Catholic churches here in Chicago have black banners draped at their doors. One can’t miss the fact that this is a mourning period, even if one doesn’t happen to be Catholic oneself.

Radio Free Europe’s connection to the CIA was severed in 1972. By Nixon, of all people. Even before that, it was often criticized for not being sufficiently anti-communist. Yes, they pushed an anti-communist message in Soviet bloc nations until the end of the cold war, and it was absolutely pro-west propaganda, but the only other media in much of those countries was pro-soviet propaganda, so …

I don’t know much about what it’s been up to since then, although it’s federal funding was cut repeatedly after the end of the cold war.

As far as Stipe goes, I think his lifelong support of progressive causes speaks for itself.

Two things: First, I’m surprised that George’s music is the only Beatles’/ex-Beatle’s that trump used. Secondly, I love what George’s estate did; so I suggest you read the entry for him first.

Addendum: He’s never heard John’s “God”? “I don’t believe in…I just believe in me/And that’s reality/Oh yes it is”

He was just as clever, if not more so, than John. I don’t know if Olivia or Dhani was behind it, but who ever was channelled George perfectly.

Remember, he was the one that told MPFC that they were the ones who would carry on the creative spirit of the Beatles. Blending old with new plus things that others never did before.

Dutton “struggled to clearly disassociate himself” because at the start of the year the senior members of his party were bragging that they were going bring a “Trump-style energy” to the mix. Once the horror of Trump actually doing what he said he’d do began to dawn, it was too late for this crowd. Not many people forgot what was said.

It certainly didn’t help them that they continued to push culture-war issues and failed to provide serious details about their policy plans. That looked all too familiar.

Oh, it’s even worse than that. Many of them were still proud of the Trumpism.

Like, say, Jacinta Nimpijinpa Price, who in the last week of the campaign was wearing a MAGA hat, said in a press conference in front of Dutton that they were there to “Make Australia Great Again”, and when Dutton proposed a policy to “stop the indoctrination of children in school” (which is to say: the imposition of Trumpian political correctness in every school in the country), then backed away really fast in the hope that people would forget he said it, Nampijinpa Price was the one who stood up after he tried to back away, and doubled down on it.

The bad news is that she’s probably guaranteed to be returned to the Senate. The good news is that the rump of the Liberal Party, led by whatever mouthbreathing thug is left (very likely Angus Taylor, who bears the distinction of being even less intellectual and vastly more cruelly thuggish than even Dutton at his worst), is stuck with her. She and the rest of them deserve each other.

I haven’t verified this, but I have no reason to doubt it.
