There is a video here that shows the other pov where you can see her reach for her gun out of anger after shouting at the protesters.
It can be compared to the footage from the other direction that the news article used.
It does confirm, at least in my own opinion, between the two, that no one else was drawing any weapon and that the woman was lashing out to kill out of rage without any threat to her own life
The second she reached for her gun some actual fucking heroes stepped up.

No word on the pay,1) but apparently they are expected to work a minimum of 120 hours a year, which can be done remotely.
1) Given the opportunities this creates for them to funnel a lot of public money into their own companies, actually paying them would sort of add insult to injury (if you know what I mean) - but it would also be totally on brand.

This isn’t a slide into fascist autocracy - it is a full-pelt rush to get there.
ETA and once the state effectively mandates party membership as a pre-req for anything at all, it holds the ultimate sanction of being able to refuse party membership to anyone it wants to.

I whole-heartedly agree - but to be a classed as ‘refugees’ they should have a valid and approved asylum claim - genuine reasons to fear for their safety in their home country.
Otherwise they are just immigrants (whose legal status may vary according to visa conditions or absence of any visa).

It is pointless to quibble between immigrant or refugee in this case because to Trumpy, they were nothing more than props. Their value to him is over. They have no visible means of support and will fail. They are probably putting themselves in danger by calling attention to their poor treatment. While I feel bad for them, I feel worse for the treatment of actual immigrants and refugees that are in danger from being political pawns in the GOP’s war on the good and decent.
We are a nation of immigrants and pretending we are a nation of lily white Christians is wrong.
