In other news, 58% of US adults have no fucking idea what is happening in the country. Nor do they care. (No, thatās too harsh. ~30% or so are MAGAts and actually are happy and proud of what is happening here. The other 20-30% are ignorant, for any of a number of reasons, some legit, some willful, of just what a shitshow this country has become.)
I think thereās a large number of people who are appalled by what this country is doing but still say things like āin the whole itās a force for goodā, āitās still better than other placesā or āI still love my countryā.

Weāve seen one trump shrine and a couple small trump flags.
But, weāve also seen sites blanketed with American flags, canopies that are giant flags, red white and blue carpets, flag towels, flag stickers, everything turned into a flag.
Itās not hard to figure out who they support.
A single flag could go either way but these giant look at me Iām a patriot displays always get an eye roll and head shaking as we walk by.
It stinks that a lot of people like us wonāt put up a flag because we donāt want the slightest possibility of being associated with those so called patriots.
We are embarrassed by our country right now, that also stinks.
I also feel bad for the park staff having to be around those morons.

As long as none of them are Trump Flags or Confederate flags, you never know. Looks can be deceiving.
Itās also classic behavior of people being abused. The urge to love your parents, or in this case the country in which you were heavily indoctrinated(*), is very strong. Even extreme abuse doesnāt always break that in the way reasonable logic would expect. You might even acknowledge that such abuse is happening and may have an inkling that itās not normal, but letting go of that relationship is difficult so you develop a mental blind spot and even make excuses for it.
(* - Iāve been thinking a lot about that indoctrination. While some of it is undoubtedly intentional, how so very much of it is the subtle layering of generations?)
Which is the point of general strikes. When 70% of the country isnāt working and isnāt buying, it hits them where it hurts - in the portfolio.

Iād reckon that of the 30% MAGAs, half of them have no fucking idea what is actually going on (as opposed to what some of them think is going on, and many donāt even get that far). They voted Trump and have probably not been paying much attention since.

We have a similar problem here, with the English flag. Too many associations with football louts and right-wing fuckwits.
Yeah. I distrust any usage of the Irish flag when we arenāt playing football and always have.
Now though, now itās rancid outside sports. People are talking about carrying it to counter protests against racists but I couldnāt care less. Let them have it. Itās soiled irreparably.
