Looking at use cases for generative LLMs – it has to be where you can’t get a person to do it properly, but then it doesn’t matter if it’s even remotely correct, you just need something that superficially seems like an answer right away. So far I have seen exactly one, talking to NPCs in video games, kind of like an upgraded Starship Titanic (which was a little too Eliza-level to really come off). And honestly that’s neat, but I think we can do it without spending billions of dollars or burning the planet or stealing all the art in the world, and if we can’t then I’m ok with not having it.

In Trump’s mind, Canada is so desperate to be a part of his imaginary space-based missile defense system (defending against imaginary missile attacks, no less) that they would sacrifice their sovereignity rather than pay the equivalent of some 2.6% of their GDP. This must be some advanced “Art of the Deal” stuff that’s well beyond my understanding.

The Danish immigrant story made total sense within the current set of directives that Trump has handed down to ICE, which is to deport as many people as possible. Trump of course promised to deport “criminal” aliens, but he promised a number that a) exceeded the number of undocumented immigrants that actually exist in the US by several times, and b) criminals already were being deported in the existing system, so to hit quotas, ICE has to scramble to find new reasons to kick people out, no matter how small. (Which is why they’re also so desperate they’re just going to places where immigrants are and randomly grabbing people off the street.)
Apparently in the case of the Danish guy, distracted by a family emergency at the time, he failed to file a particular piece of paperwork when he was supposed to. For six years that wasn’t considered an issue, but now ICE are looking for every possible excuse to deport people, so any mistake in filing paperwork at any time becomes relevant. In the grand scheme, where the administration is arbitrarily revoking people’s green cards/visas and not telling them so that they can be arrested for being here “illegally,” the monstrous and inhuman treatment he was subjected to becomes almost reasonable in comparison.
