Re: the MAHA report
Epidemiologist Katherine Keyes is listed in the MAHA report as the first author of a study on anxiety in adolescents. When NOTUS reached out to her this week, she was surprised to hear of the citation. She does study mental health and substance use, she said. But she didnât write the paper listed.
âThe paper cited is not a real paper that I or my colleagues were involved with,â Keyes told NOTUS via email. âWeâve certainly done research on this topic, but did not publish a paper in JAMA Pediatrics on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title.â
Itâs not clear that anyone wrote the study cited in the MAHA report. The citation refers to a study titled, âChanges in mental health and substance abuse among US adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic,â along with a nonfunctional link to the studyâs digital object identifier. While the citation claims that the study appeared in the 12th issue of the 176th edition of the journal JAMA Pediatrics, that issue didnât include a study with that title.
I donât know how the article can be full of examples like this and not mention AI.
My first and still best thought on this. ChatGPT hallucinations all over this shit, along with serious lack of editing (or caring about whether it was accurate or not.) It imagines something that sort of sounds like it supports their presuppositions, and that is good enough.
Itâs always a nice bonus when these judgements are issued (in part) by judges that Trump himself appointed. Really helps undermine the whole âunelected activist judges shouldnât have this power!â argument that they try to make when Trump was the one to put him there.
(Apologies for linking to Newsweek but theyâre the only outlet Iâve seen so far that focused on this aspect of the story)
I know this is not news as such, but it is tearing through the medical community that FMGs (foreign med school grads) who are expected to start residencies in July are suddenly facing not getting their visas in time to start. This will affect over 6,000 people that the programs are counting on coming in in just a month. I know TACO, but this is really bad, especially in a country that is facing a critical shortage of doctors currently. What a fucking mess!
Is an aneurysm coming?
sure. letâs bring 400 sick birds to [checks notes] florida-da!
what could possibly goâŚ
oh, fuck it! itâs all going to go horribly wrong, isnât it?
Oooh, do you think there will be a petting zoo?
This was reminding me a little of an episode of King of the Hill but I had misremembered - that was about Emu, not ostriches.
This wonât help either
TACO again
Iâm guessing TharizdumbâŚ

Of course a ruling saying he canât tariff is brushed off
Kevin Hassett, the head of Trumpâs National Economic Council, brushed off the ruling on Fox Business Thursday morning, calling the decision a mere âhiccupâ in Trumpâs plan caused by âactivist judges.â

One of whom he appointed himself, another by St. Ronnie. The idiocy just keep coming.
Americaâs soft power was built off of WW1 and WW2. Thereâs whole countries around the world that just uses US currency as itâs been that stable, plus the status of English as standard âbusiness languageâ is an England to US dominance thing.
Who would trust a country, knowing that we potentially could have a fool come in and upend decades of work? We like to say our country has checks and balances but both of the checks have ceded power and one is only barely beginning to realize that giving a tanker of gas and a flamethrower to an arsonist is a Bad Idea.
