The goddamn Trump Administration

Well, this is something, isn’t it?
just emailed it.

Dear Mayor Stone,

Because of the current situation in which the federal government is mishandling certain immigrant populations, I respectively request that the City of Warren become a sanctuary city for said populations.

I really am not sure of the proper procedure for this, but sometimes starting at the top really helps to achieve a goal.

I also have an issue with the city for only having four public libraries, especially when Warren is the third-largest city in the state of Michigan. Would you be so kind as to direct me on how I should approach that issue?

Thank you for your attention to this matter, it is much appreciated.

With kindest regards,

Lucy A. Gothro

The narrative that he did was driving me crazy. Petro wasn’t ever opposed to the flights themselves, all he wanted was a set protocol for the process, which… is what he got. Meanwhile the story turned into, “Colombia’s president writes crazy things in response to Trump, immediate backs down in the face of big manly Trump’s tough threats,” none of which actually happened.

Yeah, clearly even when Trump “loses” (quietly caves in to someone else’s demands, as in this case, or totally fails to achieve his goals), it’s still going to get twisted in the media into a “win” for him, making his weird behavior and threats seem effective.

Thanks, it means a lot! I figure maybe the Dufresne approach might work.

I think whatever you can do is helpful in this struggle. Same for all of us… :sparkling_heart: It’s gonna be a rough few years… :sob:

Okay, let’s all of us join hands and focus on recreating this scene with a different lead character:

Bill Murray is JD Vance, natch!

He can’t name it back to Calhoun - it’s located in the City of Minneapolis, not on federal land. Something tells me Minnesota’s governor won’t be interested in a name change, either. Besides, isn’t Calhoun Square still called that? It’s about 2 blocks from the lake, close enough, eh?

@OhHai: Primary-ing Peters sounds like a better job opportunity for Mayor Duggan than running as an independent for governor.

@tcg550: Ann Arbor police won’t cooperate, either. Sanctuary city, police mandated to do Community policing, and the city administrator is a black man. Nonetheless, good on the new sheriff. I voted for her opponent in the primary because I liked his community outreach proposals better, but I did vote for her in the general.

Wordpress?

For those not in the trade: Matt Mullenweg who oversees the development of Wordpress and also owns the main commercial implementation of wordpress, started it’s own 40’s crisis last october by declaring war on the second most popular commercial implementation of wordpress, accusing them of not “giving back enough” to the community.

While WPEngine’s contributions extent has been questioned, the main issue is that Matt did not decide to go rouse the public, but just acted like a kid with a tantrum and started destroying the relations with WPEngine, the rest of the commercial providers and the community in a “Speedrun any%” that would make Elon’s X transformation proud.

And now he’s moping a lot because the community did not support his bullyish behaviour, called on him and basically told him to stop being an asshole, so he’s doing like any moderate millionare would do, migrate to the right.

If you search “Wordpress WPEngine Drama” you probably will get many summaries.

Marge is now going after Catholics.

We are not going to tolerate NGOs who take the American people’s hard-earned taxpayer dollars to facilitate the invasion of our country.

My brand-new DOGE subcommittee will be calling in Catholic Charities to find out why and to what extent they were helping illegals invade America

Item: The Trump attack on Birthright Citizenship is premised on the “subject to the jurisdiction” part.

Item: His lawyers (well, Project 2025 and Stephen Miller’s lawyers, but anyway) made the argument that this applies not when the parents are subject to US law, but when they are only subject to US law, meaning that people who aren’t US citizens are subject to their home states’ laws.

Item: Those same lawyers argued that Tribal Native Americans, that is, people of Native American descent who claim membership of one or more recognised tribes or nations, are subject to Tribal jurisdiction, and therefore don’t qualify for Birthright Citizenship of the US.

Item: It is a known argument that Jews can never be real patriots, because they always hold a prior allegiance to Israel, and that Catholics similarly because they owe allegiance to the Pope.

Conclusion: Where Native Americans have been approached (in Spanish) and had their papers demanded, and been able to repel the ICE agents with proof of Tribal membership, this will cease to work as Native Americans will be declared non-citizens of the US, and forced onto reservations unless they have permits.

Conclusion: Catholics and Jews aren’t far behind. Stephen Miller is gleefully riding a leopard and is absolutely certain that his face is safe.

Conclusion: Expect attacks, at first subtle soundings-out but becoming less and less subtle, on the concept of dual-citizenship, and on dual-citizens.
