Covfefe!
I suspect it’s more than a spelling mistake.
In all seriousness, yes. Historically attempts at territorial expansion is a fairly common thing among aging authoritarians who are trying to secure their legacy. Scary stuff.
Yoink!
Why. THE FUCK. Did they not run stories like that PRIOR TO THE FUCKING ELECTION!!!
Assuming this was a rhetorical question…
Yes? No? Maybe?
Carrie saw that yesterday and was questioning if it was true or not. Thank you.
You know what that means, right? That the and Musk are paying certain media outlets to spread their agenda.
It’s heartening to look at the r/Fednews reddit. That subreddit is full of Federal agency workers. There’s a big thread on the Fork in the Road email. There is a strong resistance to Elon’s actions. Many people report that their bosses are communicating outside of Federal channels, like text chains, to make sure that their people know not to take the buyout and to stand firm.
Federal workers are not Twitter employees. They have strong unions. Their agencies have rules about how RIFs are performed. None of Elon’s actions have complied with these rules. He is trying to supercede the agencies’ authorities over their own workers.
There is going to be a ton of lawsuits and there are very few resignations; mostly, people who were already planning to retire and see an opportunity to get a little more free time and a little more peace.
Even people who are considering taking the “offer” aren’t taking it because there is none of the usual language that comes with RIFs - hit reply to quit the cushy Federal gig you’ve held for 20 years? No one is doing that. They want paperwork and assurances that they will receive what they are promised.
“Every accusation is a confession” has not changed one bit.
So here is a fun “and that’s why I work here” story. I have been handing out red cards for a couple days now. Apparently one of our reception folks thought this was a bad thing and contacted upper management about it to make me cease and desist. Their response? They are now making them available at all the various offices in the system. Not the outcome this person was seeking, I suspect, but very nice to know that the management folks have my back.
Good on management.
I hope they’re keeping an eye on them, because if complaining about the cards failed, they might just start calling ICE on patients.
This doesn’t surprise me at all. Most state and federal workers who have chosen that work as their career, do it because they care and they are professionals. I’d like to push back a bit against the idea these are cushy jobs. Federal work used to be stable and come with decent benefits. Many don’t require back breaking physical labor. But they aren’t easy, the pay is often well below what a similar position is paid in the private sector, and burn out can be really high. Bureaucrats get a bad rap for being lazy or not caring. Some of them are like that, of course. But a lot are just burnt out and hamstrung by the rules and laws under which they operate.
