That’s me and my mother. After the election, we were both saying, “For my own mental health, I don’t think I bear to read about Trump, think about Trump, talk about Trump.” Yet now that’s pretty much all we talk about - “Oh, did you read about the latest outrages?” I guess that’s turning out to be the survival strategy. (Though the other day, I was in her kitchen and I heard her scream in shocked horror, as if a cockroach or rat had just run across her dinner plate. Turned out she had unexpectedly come across an image or video of Trump in a news story.)
I saw the story the other day of the “layoffs” in the Department of Energy, and I kept thinking about how the main role of the department is safeguarding nuclear material - something Republicans seem incapable of understanding. (Though, to be fair, they constantly demonstrate they have no fucking idea what almost any federal agency does.)
I keep thinking that perhaps what the US needs right now is a nuclear disaster. Sure, people will die, there will be long-term repercussions for the country, etc., but that’s going to be true of the aftermath of this administration regardless. The best case scenario might actually be a nuclear disaster, because that might just wake people up to what’s going on, and why it’s a bad idea, in a very immediate way. (As opposed to several years down the line, as will happen with many of the losses now being inflicted - loss of agricultural research leading to mass crop failures, for example.)
I’m thinking no.
They’d just blame it on terrorists and use it as their Reichstag Fire.
Nuclear disaster where Trump, Musk, McConnell, and their buddies all take lethal doses of radiation?
Just as long as McConnell doesn’t mutate into Gamera.
Ugh, Republican Pokemon.
And the Trumpers would believe them. I’m getting a sinking feeling that the only thing that can change a Trump cultist’s mind is a bullet (which sounds harsh, but no harsher than “maybe we need a nuclear disaster”, honestly). I’ve been holding out hope for years that this could be resolved peacefully but all of our systems have failed us and I don’t see any way forward when almost half the country are proud Nazis. Unless they all magically cease to be monstrous the moment Trump croaks, I have trouble imagining any future that doesn’t involve either terrible violence or passively allowing ourselves to be exterminated.
It would have been so, so easy to avoid, too. If the Democrats had an ounce of courage or had reached out to progressives more, if the voters had bothered to show up during the most important (and now, last) election of their lives, if the Republicans had any kind of standards, dignity or decency, if the media hadn’t sanewashed Trump since day one, if any number of contributing historical events in the past half a century hadn’t gone as badly as they could possibly go… so many people had to fail so many times over such a long period to get us to this point that it’s still hard to believe this ludicrously improbable nightmare could possibly be our reality.
Given the disconnected between Trump and reality, and how MAGAts just go along with it, I’m increasingly convinced that Trump’s Reichstag Fire will be an entirely imaginary event (and most of the press won’t directly contradict him).
Thames Water. (Local UK ‘joke’ - nothing to do with the goddam Trump Maladministration.)
@Dogbutler Why not both all four? In that order.
As someone just posted on Reddit - seems like Trump just pre-emptively pardoned any future assassin.
Maybe the Doge-Bags can use AI to run the nuclear safety services!
I hear Elno has one he likes.
Or just Google it! Or hit up Fivr for some helprs! /s
Video in link of him nearly killing somebody.
