Okay… that seems like an option only available to a few, though. If you have a family to raise, that is far less viable an option, no?
So a fascist then… I know lots of people embraced the anti-tax revolt idea, but that came directly from angry white people who hated that Black people were getting anything from the Federal government. It’s so bound up in the far right take over of the GOP, that I don’t know if it’s a viable strategy to embrace for most people. If we all up and quit our jobs tomorrow and become contractors, that’s going to be bad for everyone involved.
I don’t know… maybe I’m just being obtuse here, but it just seems to me that this isn’t a workable strategy as it stands right now. Maybe if they take enough of a sledge hammer and make us all contract workers, it will be, but by then, things are already going to be apocalyptic…
Holy moly, I just saw this video on MSNBC, she told him and then he threatened her.
He asked Mills, who attended Friday’s event, whether she would direct her state to follow the order. Maine’s governing body for high school sports, the Maine Principal’s Association, previously said it would not bar transgender athletes from competing on teams that match their gender identity, citing a state anti-discrimination law preventing the organization from doing so.
“I’m complying with state and federal law,” Mills responded.
“We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get federal funding,” Trump said
“See you in court,” Mills said.
“Enjoy your life after governor,” Trump responded, “because I don’t think you’ll be in elected politics.”
Mills, who has served as governor of Maine since 2019, is term-limited and cannot seek reelection for a third consecutive term in 2026.
Earlier Friday, Mills said the state “will not be intimidated by the President’s threats” to withhold federal funds.
“If the President attempts to unilaterally deprive Maine school children from the benefit of Federal funding, my Administration and the Attorney General will take appropriate and necessary legal action to restore that funding and the academic opportunity it provides,” she said in a statement.
Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey (D) called Trump’s warning “disturbing.”
“Any attempt by the President to cut federal funding in Maine unless transgender athletes are restricted from playing sports would be illegal and in direct violation of court orders,” Frey said in a statement Friday morning. “Fortunately, though, the rule of law still applies in this county, and I will do everything in my power to defend Maine’s laws and block efforts by the President to bully and threaten us.”
The boxer is not transgender. And the weightlifter finished last in her weight class at the Olympics. Though she did win I think two regional competitions.
This is the thing that just does not get any attention. There are transgender athletes competing already, and they are not dominating the field! Most I think comes from a very sexist attitude of “any guy could beat any girl” so trans women should be in another class entirely. The fact that this is not true does not matter one bit.
I’m reading so much lately that I can’t keep track of where I saw stuff; this might have been on the Transphobic thread. Anyway; Canadian marathoner (a transwoman) won her race and finished a minute or two before her closest competitor, a 12 year old girl, and is being dragged for that. She would have finished 10th in the men’s race.
So here’s what it means as far as I can parse it; if she had such a massive advantage, she would have blasted her competition out of the metaphorical water, which she did not.
As an aside, that 12 year old girl is a beast, and someone to watch for in the future; if Nathanielle would have finished 10th in the men’s race, then a 12 year old girl would likely have been 11th or 12th in that race.
There was a huge stink a couple years ago when a trans woman won the 500 free at the NCAA swimming championships. What was not brought up was that she won in the 14th fastest time in that meet. It was a slow year in the 500. She was something like 12 sec behind the WR. Yes, she won, but hardly in dominating fashion, and only allowing trans women to compete if they lose is not really allowing them to compete. Ignoring the real-world facts staring them in the face is also very frustrating, but totally on par for the fascists.
For a decade, pundits and theorists and journalists and Washington insiders have tried to project various ideologies onto Trump, and then been miffed when he didn’t seem to conform to them. That is because gangsters do not have political ideologies per se. They are out for control of everything, and absolute loyalty. The outcomes of this process are less important than establishing and ruthlessly reinforcing the process itself. So Trump may be a gutter racist calling for the execution of the (innocent) Central Park Five, but if you kiss his ring properly, he will pardon an unjustly sentenced black woman. The principle that he pursues is not “law and order.” He hates law and order! The principle he pursues is “I am the boss.” To force the rest of the world to demean itself to confirm in the most exaggerated fashion possible that He Is The Boss, and that they love him, is the fulfillment of his goal. Elon Musk takes care to do this, and Trump lets him run off and wreck the government. Does Trump care very much about the particulars of what Elon Musk destroys? No. Trump cares that Elon Musk is a loyal and groveling subject. When Musk goes too far, the only recourse is for others to come and beg for Trump to fix it. All of it reinforces Trump’s own power. The power itself, rather than how it is used, is the point.
Relax security clearance for people building the President’s plane, and speed up production by cutting corners, that’s the way.
President Trump, furious about delays in delivering two new Air Force One jets, has empowered Elon Musk to explore drastic options to prod Boeing to move faster, including relaxing security clearance standards for some who work on the presidential planes.
His administration has even discussed whether a luxury jet could be acquired and refitted during the wait, according to five people with knowledge of the discussions who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe closely held deliberations.
Mr. Trump, in a pointed demonstration about his willingness to explore other options, took time on Saturday to kick the tires on a luxury jet sitting at Palm Beach International Airport. Photographers spotted the tail number of the late model 747-8, which revealed the plane to have been owned, at least until recently, by the Qatari royal family, according to registration data.
