The goddamn Trump Administration

He’s doing a press conference with the UK Prime Minister.

He just said Russia had a bad time during the Russian hoax thing, it wasn’t fair to them. He trusts Putin to keep his word.

And hey, what about the Tate brothers? What kind of deal did you make with Romania to get them back to the US?

Who? They’re on their way to the US? I don’t know anything about that.

The UK guy said he did and will fill trump in.

I guess he’s not so befuddled in an elderly way yet that he’s forgotten how to pretend he doesn’t know something.

On a teleconference Wednesday with the heads of the FBI’s 55 field offices, Patel suggested that he wants the FBI to establish a formal relationship with the UFC, which could develop programs for agents to improve their physical fitness, said sources who had been briefed on Wednesday’s call.

Conservative governance* is nothing more than reality TV for the gullible MAGAt chumps and Fox News zombies.

*That’s a real oxymoron.

Time to riff on the old Egyptian custom where the pharaoh did laps around Saqqara to prove they were fit: cage fight, and the winner gets to run the FBI.

Heck, cage fight for the presidency? Can’t end any worse…

Another reaction to healthcare cuts and attempts to get folks to realize it’s gonna hurt them, while the pols and their billionaire supporters will be just fine. The Liberal Redneck’s take on who really benefits from programs being cut and how the GOP treats those few in that party who push back was spot-on:

It was FDR who started it, Truman and Kennedy wanted to carry it further; and LBJ was the one to sign Medicare into law.

Oh WOW - notice what party those guys belonged to!

FTA:

Donald Trump’s first election to the presidency in 2016 triggered an energetic defense of democracy from the American establishment. But his return to office has been met with striking indifference. Many of the politicians, pundits, media figures, and business leaders who viewed Trump as a threat to democracy eight years ago now treat those concerns as overblown—after all, democracy survived his first stint in office. In 2025, worrying about the fate of American democracy has become almost passé.

I think it’s more that a lot of the established power / money has looked at the flavour of authoritarianism on offer and said “yeah, we can make that work.”

Trump had promised to make it free…And she had believed him.

Saw this earlier and it drove me crazy. Leaving aside the grotesqueness of being willing to throw a bunch of demographics under the bus because you think you’ll get something from Trump, I don’t know what kind of ignorance/stupidity would lead anyone to believe the guy, but especially that particular promise. It was completely incompatible with his whole anti-abortion-rights stance (to the point where it’s more likely IVF would be outlawed), it wasn’t something he could actually promise as president, even if he was working with legislators to draft such a bill (which he wasn’t because the Republicans are completely hostile to IVF), there wasn’t even a way to pay for it, etc.

Though it is kind of amazing that Trump outdid himself compared to his first campaign, where many of his promises are lies, in that this time around almost every single thing he promised (or denied) during this campaign has turned out to be an outright lie. The price of groceries, free IVF, not being involved with project 2025, so on and so on… and they were all such obvious lies, too. I have no sympathy for people who are finding out the hard way, though.

As someone put it:

every biden era conspiracy is now true. the president is a senile vegetable and the government is run by teenage fanatics and crooked billionaires. every company is in cahoots with the state to impose their political views. everyone is a satanic pedophile sex trafficker addicted to drugs

It turns out that it is all projection by the right, even the craziest of their conspiracy theories. Perhaps especially the craziest of their conspiracy theories.

Musk and Mike Johnson are pushing the conspiracy that Soros is paying protestors to disrupt townhall meetings.

And to answer my question above about why nobody is asking Congress to take a pay cut, it’s because they think a raise would take away incentive to steal from the government.

That’s an odd take. Can we pay poor people more so they won’t steal to feed their kids?
