The goddamn Trump Administration

A Russian born scientist one lab over is fond of stating that one of the best ways to stuff-up putin’s efforts in Ukraine would be to station a contingent of French peace-keepers somewhere along the battle lines. She says that there’s a rather strange …affection/respect among Russians for all things French which goes at least back to the court of Peter the Great (wherein they all had to speak French). So putin killing French folks would really sour the population on that drive; but then does putin care what the citizens think? well, not much.

I’m personally a bit more concerned that Europe will have less trouble with the USA coming to the aid of its NATO allies than I am with my country being the reason those allies have to come together. With the sub current docked in Halifax I’m thinking I’m not the only one with that concern.

Because they still haven’t figured out why there are meetings to talk about cuts before implementing.

From the article:

Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) called on the administration to pick a nominee “who at bare minimum believes in basic science and will help lead CDC’s important work to monitor and prevent deadly outbreaks.”

Can we please stop? Science is not a belief system. It is a methodology for understanding the world and getting closer and closer to factual “Truth.” It makes no more sense to say “I believe in science” than it does to say “I believe 2+2=4.”

“At a bare minimum understands basic science”

Why yes, I have had this conversation many times, why do you ask?

Chump is out and out targeting Maine for doing its thing - a thing the evil git does not personally like. (Didn’t there used to be a thing called States’ rights?)

The beautiful thing about science is particularly that belief systems do not matter. An object will fall to Earth at 9.8 m/sec2 no matter what belief system you subscribe to. Pi will always be the answer to radius/diameter. The Pythagorean theory works. Vaccines work, the Earth is not flat, etc, etc. Ignoring those facts is not belief, it is ignorance and stupidity. Or, as we now know it, Republican “thought.”

Sadly, won’t do us any good for Trump to become (more) seriously demented while in office. I’m imagining a barely coherent Trump, in the Oval Office, having executive orders and other documents put in front of him to sign. Someone explains what he’s signing in language a fourth grader could understand. Trump turns to the audience and asks, “Do you understand what that means?” hoping that someone will explain it to him again. Oh wait, I don’t have to imagine it, because that literally happened.

As long as Trump can still sign documents and his insane behavior provides excellent cover for Vance and his fellow fascists, they’ll keep him in place. Only if Trump insists on doing something serious that risks slipping by them (e.g. ordering a military attack on an allied country) might they step in and have him removed (and still, maybe not). As long as the media sane-wash Trump’s statements and actions, as long as his craziest shit continues to be normalized, there’s nothing else he can do, no level of incoherence, that would be insane enough to make him more of a liability than he already is.

I assume that’s part of the appeal of using AI in the first place - the broader the brush with which they revoke visas, the better, as far as they’re concerned.

Thousands of fired federal workers must be rehired immediately, judge rules

U.S. District Judge William Alsup described the mass firings as a “sham” strategy by the government’s central human resources office.

Trump’s executive order would deny citizenship to children born on U.S. soil to unlawful immigrants or those on a temporary immigrant status. The administration’s claimed in court proceedings birthright citizenship creates a strong incentive for illegal immigration.

“We don’t like it, so the Constitution must give. It can’t tell us what to do!”

Why the fascists hate the Constitution so much? Because it is almost entirely about limiting the power of the government. Anything that puts limits on their power is to be thrown down, and they are bound and determined to do exactly that.

Surprise, well, not really.

Robert Morris, the Dallas-area megachurch pastor who resigned last year amid sexual abuse allegations, has been indicted in Oklahoma for child sex crimes that date back to the 1980s.

As early as Friday, President Donald Trump is expected to invoke the Alien Enemies Act – a wartime law that allows the president to detain or deport the natives and citizens of an enemy nation – as part of the efforts to carry out mass deportations, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

And who, exactly, are we at war with?

The act hasn’t been used since World War II, when it was used to detain Japanese Americans.

Yeah, and it worked so well then. Although this brings me up short. The Japanese Americans interned were not all immigrants, most were second generation citizens. Could he be warming up to arrest citizens who happen to have non-white (or whatever nation has pissed him off) ancestry?
