We had very good and productive discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia yesterday, and there is a very good chance that this horrible, bloody war can finally come to an end — BUT, AT THIS VERY MOMENT, THOUSANDS OF UKRAINIAN TROOPS ARE COMPLETELY SURROUNDED BY THE RUSSIAN MILITARY, AND IN A VERY BAD AND VULNERABLE POSITION. I have strongly requested to President Putin that their lives be spared. This would be a horrible massacre, one not seen since World War II. God bless them all!!!

This is a line of “argument” (can’t call it reasoning) I have heard somewhat regularly since becoming a parent and more often since homeschooling. Sometimes mixed with racist asides about superior vs inferior genes, sometimes mixed with ableist shit, sometimes with religious bigotry. It’s not new; it’s absolutely vile.

Until their children are the ones “nature” or “god” decides are not fit for survival. Then they get very angry when you throw it back at them.
Seriously, we (were) living in a golden age where disease didn’t take away unfathomable number of children before 2 years of age. Even within living memory. My mother is from a family of seven kids, of which only 5 survived, my grandmother a family of 15, only 11 of which survived. That’s a 25% mortality rate, during what it generally accepted to be modern medicine. In the USA.
The only ones who are going to do well if this BS continues are the tiny coffin makers. And most of them would rather be put out of business.
