“And there is one interesting, unique footnote about the Speaker of the House position: The job candidate doesn’t have to be a member of the House of Representatives. But as of 2023, no person has been chosen as Speaker who was not a member of the House.”
Of course, Musk wouldn’t even be able to devote the time necessary for the job.
But - Trump dies - he engineers an accident for Vance - then argues that he can be President because the line of succession law trumps the natural born citizen requirement & pays the Supreme’s to rubber stamp that.
There’s another problem with Musk as Speaker. Speaker of the House is next in the line of Presidential succession, right behind the Vice President. But as a foreign born citizen, Musk isn’t eligible to be President. That means next in line would shift to the President Pro Tem, currently that’s Patty Murray, but come January, if tradition holds, it will be 91 year old Chuck Grassley.
The Speaker also is second-in-line (after the vice president) to the presidency under the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 […]
Something tells me that the authors of this bill never considered this “fun fact” about the Speaker position. (On the other hand, if a law like this had been passed this century I totally would have assumed it was a sleeper tool for a long, quiet conspiracy.)
Remember all that “Trump won’t get us into foreign wars” nonsense?
At the same time he’s trying to annex Greenland, Canada, Panama. All allies. He’ll probably want Scotland next; because they don’t treat his golf course nicely.
Thoughts on the Trump/Musk situation? How long will Trump be able to tolerate Musk horning in on his action vs will he remain as servile to Musk as he is to Putin?
