I feel that if the feds over pay benefits, there is no fraud involved, and fail to notice within a reasonable time frame (6 months to a year), they shouldn’t be permitted to attempt to claw back the over payment.
It was their mistake. They didn’t catch it.

My understanding is that the WTO dispute settlement system got pretty well gutted by Trump and Biden, leaving them pretty much toothless in this sort of situation.
Paul Krugman asked how the administration was going to deal with countries transshipping their good via countries with lower tariff rates, and concluded that it basically wouldn’t deal with it, because they hadn’t even thought that far ahead.
And that’s the thing - they let the “AI” do all the work; no one considered this to begin with, much less looked at it afterwards. The most consequential, destructive economic act of the last century, and no human being (much less anyone with actual expertise) planned this out or thought about any of the consequences or how it would be implemented, even. Look at what a disaster this is and realize this is their plan for the entire federal government in replacing workers with “AI.”

(Leaving aside the insanity of the statement, given that it hasn’t even started yet…) Coincidentally, along with Trump, I too had been using the surgery metaphor for this tariff situation. People have been trying to justify the tariffs by talking about how they’re useful, and it’s true - tariffs can be used, in highly targeted ways, along with other policies to accomplish specific goals, like strengthening particular industries. But here, there’s nothing specific being remedied, no plan, no strategy, no specific goals, just a madness of universal tariffs. This is like a doctor saying, “The patient looks a bit fatigued. Clearly surgery is what’s called for. Since cutting out a bit of tissue can help people, what we need to do is take everything out.”
