What. The. Fuck!
I stand corrected. As of last night’s executive order amendment they TRIPLED this rate so as of June 1, you as an individual in the US receiving a package from China will be paying fees of $150 per item or 90% of its value.
So that $3 component you ordered? It’s a $153 component now
So this is expected, really, and it obviously means that Trump-favored companies will survive and all others will be destroyed by punishing tariffs. It’s such a direct - and obvious - way to shape the US economy and make sure the rich get richer while reinforcing Trump’s power. No corporate or business interest will dare stand against him or his agenda.
And in case there was any doubt at all that there was insider trading going on by Trump’s favored…
Come on, Senate Dems. Show some spine!!
And fuuuuuck…
Thursday, said the meeting with Senate GOP leaders Wednesday night got the House, Senate and White House all on the same page with a minimum of $1.5 trillion in spending cuts.
They can pass this with reconciliation. Medicare is finished.
@DukeTrout, this might be of interest to you:
At least some of the device reviewers are coming back to work, at least until DOGE gets wind of this move.
Don’t forget Trujillo.
That’s not bad?
Personally, I think manipulating the stock market IS bad, but what do I know? It’s just one of the things I had to learn in order to be licensed as a fiduciary.
All these Democratic governors, running to the right on issues…
Although, I will say that Shawn Fain has made some positive noises about the tariffs, too, so this might be her way of signaling to the union vote who wish to go after neoliberal free trade maximalism…? At least she’s not throwing trans people under the bus like Newsom…
Pumpkin spice palpatine…
fanta fascist…
Way too girly for me.
Received this today:
Smaller businesses will take the hardest hit with this on-again-off-again tariff roulette. They can’t afford million dollar “donations” (cough cough) to obtain exemptions.
How much of this is true, and how much of it does she wish was true?
yay, corruption
ok, how does this work? who collects the $150 “import fee” at the individual consumer level?
will my postal carrier knock on my door? leave an orange slip in my postbox saying “package delayed at post office for postage due”?
how is this order even workable?
ETA:
Finally we’re going to get to the bottom of it by September.
Trump suggested vaccines.
“If you can come up with that answer, where you stop taking something, you stop eating something, or maybe it’s a shot,” he told Kennedy on Thursday. “But something’s causing it.”
Asked Thursday on Fox News about the child who died of measles last week, Kennedy claimed that “she had a lot of complications that could have killed her,” although the Texas health department has noted that neither child had any previously reported underlying conditions.
Kennedy added, “We need to do better at treating kids who have this disease and not just saying the only answer is vaccination.”
Take this with a tariffed grain of salt, i’m only vaguely summarizing what i’ve read: the tariff is added on at the port of entry as a cost to the importer. So some federal authority, who is aware of what has been just imported writes up a bill and hands it to the importer. That importer will, of course, add it on to the cost to the reseller (if any) and that reseller will mark up the price you must pay to walk away with the item.
As for a $1 component about to cost the consumer $146, obviously that isn’t “workable”. Very few such items would be bought - one presumes… rather i’m guessing that the cost will be (assuming 145%) $1.00 * 1.45 or $1.45. …i think.
that is how it adds up in real world maths, yes.
however, the bluesky “skeet” originally referenced states it as an additional charge or “import fee” rather than tariff.
i realize that confusion and the resulting chaos are the point, and i - a simple keybilly - am not meant to understand the multidimensional levels of tradecraft being waged, but i really can make no sense of these EOs (royal decrees of the false king).
the Ian Coldwater bluesky post leaves me very confuse.
is it just me?
