The thing is, that’s probably about 80-90% of the value of what the US imports from China, especially if the lithium batteries that go into phones and computers are included in that exemption.
So the tariffs on Chinese goods basically ARE banning Christmas (decorations). I know someone who imports them - right about now is when they start ordering, if not earlier.

I agree with your overall sentiment, but this is still victim blaming. We ended up here because Republicans decided in the 1970’s to stop trying to win elections with policy and instead go for the bigot vote because of a flaw in US electoral structures.

She was there to advocate for her state on disaster relief, tariffs on the auto industry, and other things and she got shuffled into the Oval Office without warning or told why, right as T**** was signing some shitty EO. Then he praised her for supporting it, even though she didn’t have any idea what he was doing. It was a trap, and now somehow the media is blaming her for it instead of calling T**** and his goons out for setting the trap in the first place.

This isn’t where I had read it, but aligns with my memory of what I read somewhere…
“It was not where I wanted to be or planned to be or would have liked to have been,” Whitmer told reporters Thursday. “I disagree with a lot of the stuff that was said and the actions that were taken, but I stayed in the room because I needed to make the case for Michigan and that’s my job.”
Whitmer said she was unaware she was going to a press conference, believing she was instead heading into a private meeting with Trump.
