I don’t know if they’re using the legal definition here, but “assault” can be just a threat. (Which is why law enforcement with their foot illegally in your door can arrest you for assault as soon as you start to close the door, even if you don’t actually shut it on their foot.) At this point, given that “ICE” are, as you say, extra-legal kidnappers who may or may not even be actual ICE agents, actual physical resistance seems pretty warranted (both legally and morally).
Fortunately, we’ve been driving a hybrid for the past few years. Seeing Toyota’s 40-ish mpg as promised. Also, it helps that the city planners 20 years ago designed our area for walkable access to pretty much everything. Ex: Park? For us, walk two blocks (very nice one there with artificial duck pond that attracts all sorts of migrating waterfowls) then cross the street via one of the numerous pedestrian bridges here that lead you along to the “entrances” to biking/hiking paths that weave through the city. In fact, if you have a bike, you can access everything you need and not have to use crosswalks. Noice…until we have to drive out to the San Fernando Valley or Simi Valley. Shock de Sticker.
PS: We’ve begun noticing an apparent uptick in vehicles here sporting Arizona plates. Hm.
Nowadays all immigration lawyers should have pre-prepared (as much as possible) boilerplate appeals, bonds, whatever ready to complete and file ASAP.

So there’s this very strange thing happening on the right that is very explicitly designed to turn off that sympathy-slash-empathy receptors in people’s minds and hearts. And there’s a series of books that have been taking on the very concept of empathy.
You’ve seen Elon Musk and members of the tech bro world taking on the concept of empathy, saying empathy is inherently toxic and that empathy warps your decision making. So anytime there is an appeal to a person’s decency and humanity — which by the way is what our fundamental rights are based on — anytime you appeal to this sort of inherent dignity of human beings and this idea that human beings should not be treated like this, then that’s toxic empathy. Then you’re trying to manipulate me.
There’s an actually ongoing project to actively try to close the hearts of people on the right to appeals of humanity and dignity. It’s just breathtaking to see.

I’m sure this hits home for Dean Obeidallah given he successfully sued The Daily Stormer for defamation after they posted doctored tweets of his in an effort to portray him as a terrorist and to try to get him murdered.

And, you know what, even if the government has video evidence of Abrego Garcia committing some sort of crime, that still doesn’t negate his constitutional rights of due process.
