That’s the funny bit - Paul Krugman was talking about this, saying he initially assumed that Navarro must have been out of town for a few days, but no, Navarro was in the White House, just in another room for a meeting. We’re back to the dynamics of the first administration, where Trump’s position is that of whoever managed to talk to him last, and major policies can change in a matter of minutes. My mind remains blown that not only is the US ruled by a demented toddler, but that almost half of voters still voted for him anyways.
Tattoos, abuse of women, committing crimes? Wow, Hegseth is MS-13?!! But wait, Trump and most of his cabinet fit two out of the three, so they must “probably” be MS-13 as well!
It’s hilarious how Trump can’t even send out a simple holiday greeting without it turning into a frothing-at-the-mouth, gibbering lunatic attack on (at least) half of America.
“highly destructive Moron” “most incompetent” “WORST”
And then the attack, as usual, is pure projection.
I wonder if his cult ever grow tired of the continual desperate insecurity, meanspiritedness and lunatic rambling and miss the days when they’d just get pleasant well-wishes and a feeling of calm and normalcy. Surely many are old enough to remember how that felt, even if just from past Republican presidents.
But who knows, maybe even back then they were seething and smashing their kids’ Easter eggs onto the floor in a rage because George W. Bush wasn’t viciously attacking the left when he sent out warm greetings to all those observing the holiday.
Nailed it
An interesting Easter message that doesn’t include the words “Jesus”, “Christ”, or “Christian”. What are the odds that his “Christian” followers care, or even notice?
A bit of humor:
That article was as much a criticism of Columbia University as it was of Trump.
Oh yeah!
Trump and his father fiercely fought a 1973 discrimination lawsuit brought by the Justice Department for their alleged refusal to rent apartments in predominantly white buildings to black tenants. Testimony showed that the applications filed by black apartment seekers were marked with a “C’’ for “colored.” A settlement that ended the lawsuit did not require the Trumps to explicitly acknowledge that discrimination had occurred — but the government’s description of the settlement said Trump and his father had “failed and neglected” to comply with the Fair Housing Act.
“The defense secretary sent sensitive information about strikes in Yemen to an encrypted group chat that included his wife and brother”
I mean, of course he did. These guys are wildly, criminally sloppy with security, so it was inevitable that they’ve fucked up in a multitude of other ways, so far. These are just the ones that we’ve heard about, and I’m sure we’ll continue to get a continuous stream of similar stories as long as they remain in their offices (and which will represent only a small fraction of their total crimes).
It’ll be interesting to see if he survives this. Trump values his loyalty and willingness to commit war crimes on his behalf, so that goes a long way to forgiving him being such a public fuck-up. But Trump also doesn’t like it when his minions bring down his popularity…
If only there were some way of getting him to not like it when his minions disobey the law…
Unfortunately it seems like only the opposite will ever be true as Trump sees his ability, and the willingness/ability of those under him, to flout the law as a definite plus, a sign of their power.
When regular folk need to draw up an agreement that will contain no surprises and cover all eventualities they hire lawyers like these people. This is supposed to be what they are good at. Can’t be good for business getting hoodwinked like that.
Did they get Lionel Hutz to draw it up?
One party that’s part of the “agreement” simply doesn’t give a shit about what’s actually in it, how it is worded or which conditions and caveats it may or may not contain.
No more bowling ball test Japan. He’s onto you.
NON-TARIFF CHEATING:
- Currency Manipulation
- VATs which act as tariffs and export subsidies
- Dumping Below Cost
- Export Subsidies and Other Govt. Subsidies
- Protective Agricultural Standards (e.g., no genetically engineered corn in EU)
- Protective Technical Standards (Japan’s bowling ball test)
- Counterfeiting, Piracy, and IP Theft (Over $1 trillion a year)
- Transshipping to EVADE Tariffs!!!
Number 5 in a going to be a sticking point for pretty much the rest of the world. This will be… interesting.
Number 2 is a huge sticking point, too. He doesn’t really think he can get most European countries to overhaul their entire taxation system and get rid of VAT? Especially since VAT isn’t at all a tariff. Consumers pay it regardless of whether they buy from domestic or foreign companies.
I guess we would have to ask that every US state and municipality abolish sales tax on all European goods in return.
