I don’t even entirely blame them for thinking that way due to all the propaganda that pushes that narrative. It takes a significant amount of critical thinking to overcome that and critical thinking is sadly not taught well.

We appear to be living through a time where the old fallacy of “social darwinism” is being sadly re-accepted (certainly in the media). One grim thing is it almost seems from the current crop of super rich, often nepo-babies, that it’s almost the opposite sense where likelihood lies: The richer they get, the stupider. Why, here’s one example now:

Peter Thiel, longtime Trump supporter and billionaire master of the universe, published an op-ed in Financial Times that perfectly replicates the experience of being cornered by a sweaty cokehead at an Austin, Texas house party.
“A time for truth and reconciliation,” is the piece’s ominous title. The reference to South Africa’s post-Apartheid era policies is the most coherent line in the article. The subhed immediately takes us into drug-rant territory: “Trump’s return to the White House augurs the ‘apokálypsis’ of the ancien regime’s secrets.”
To hear Thiel tell it, the incoming Trump presidency is the dawn of a new age. Thiel uses ancient, I’m sorry “ancien,” spellings of many words. Words like “apokálypsis” which he says will lead to the grand unveiling of multiple truths. Who killed Jeffrey Epstein? What’s the real story behind the JFK assassination? Was COVID-19 a U.S. bioweapon? Did Brazil ban X at the behest of the Biden administration? …

When he was on CNN a few months back as a panel guest, another panel guest called him antisemitic and directed a “joke” at him saying, “I hope your beeper doesn’t go off.”
I watched that live, and that was one of those “what the fuck did I just see” moments. That Medhi was able to keep his cool in this situation is a testament to his character.

Right? CNN prime time these days is miserable to watch because of this. They always have the worst of the worst people to represent the “conservative” side who end up being little more than Trump bootlickers and mouthpieces for the RNC.
For the “liberal” side they sometimes get really good panelists like Michael Harriot, Nayyera Haq, and others of their ilk. More often than not it’s milquetoast moderates like John Avlon.
In some really WTF moments they have people like fucking Geoff Duncan or Adam Kinzinger as the “balance”. People who are about as leftist as Atilla the Hun, but who are suddenly qualified to represent the progressive side because they (checks notes) rejected Trump’s coup attempt? What a crock of shit.
