Well, the local zoo
(English page won’t onebox for some reason or other but works:)

has Aptenodytes forsteri in its logo, and for its 125th anniversary they had a fundraiser/marketing thing called “Pinguinale”. Sponsors could buy “blank” fibreglass statues of penguins and then paint or modify them otherwise to their hearts content. There was everything from simply adding a company logo to evoking other works of art to chrome plating. I think 200 statues were made, and most of them can still be found all over town.
I’ll post some pictures every now and then.

The scuba-equipped penguin is super cute (even if redundant ). Must be a scuba business sponsor?

that looks really cool! i love the style of the artwork. reminds me of the sheer scale of Jean Giraud (aka Möebius).

Oddly enough, I had a nice chat with a Benedictine nun only last Monday when I ended up more or less by chance at https://www.abteiburgdinklage.eu/burg-dinklage en route to my parents.
Dinklage castle is the birthplace of Cardinal von Gahlen.

As soon as I saw the illustration, I thought the same thing. It has a very Moebius vibe, but somehow very cute.

The Biggest Penguin That Ever Existed Was a ‘Monster Bird’

Fossils found in New Zealand highlight an era after the dinosaurs when giant flightless birds prowled the seas for prey.
