If you have Netflix, watch the “Night of the Mini Dead” episode of Love, Death, and Robots.

But for God’s sake, don’t let Tim see it.

My kids used to love these books. Tacky waddles to a different drummer.

People respond really weird to penguins too. Everywhere else explorers were all “what remarkable birds there are on this island…here were the recipes I could come up with”. In Antarctica suddenly you start having things like “these poor birds had no priest to officiate their wedding but fortunately our captain was on hand to save them from living in sin”.

I took along my yo-yo when we visited the Detroit Zoo during my punkly youth. Many of the animals were fascinated, though for varying am’ts of time, just as one might expect.

The lemurs were absolutely enthralled and delighted, laser focussed on the up and down, and round and round of the thing…for all of maybe 45 seconds.

The goats at the farm animals petting zoo section were fascinated for a couple minutes, but then they wanted to know how it tasted. (No yo-yos were harmed during the making of these memories.)

The sea lions watched it for a while, and seemed amused.

The otters swam up and down in synch with its motion for a minute, then returned to their usual Important Otterly Business.

Most of the penguins were too jaded to even glance in its direction, but one of them was quite taken with it. S/he swam up and down in synch with its motion for ten minutes! I’d pause while s/he grabbed a breath, and s/he kept an eye on me during those quick surface excursions - s/he didn’t want to miss any fun!

The penguins’ area behind the glass was brightly lit, but we humans were in a dark, cave-like cement setting in the old Penguinarium (it’s since been completely redone), and it was naturally a glow in the dark yo-yo. Its luminescence may have additionally interested my flappy friend.

The Penguinarium is usually pretty busy - everyone loves penguins! - but my punk ass drew a big crowd with the penguin’s response and the yo-yo. I had room to do tricks, and the penguin and humans alike were best pleased.

Several kids came up to ask me what my yo-yo was, and I hipped them. Hope all those parents came thru - yo-yos are so much fun, and even the good ones, like my Duncan, don’t cost much.

I love the yo-yo w/the penguin on! but Yoyo the penguin’s story made me sad.

I looked on amazOMG UK and US but couldn’t find a glow in the dark Duncan Imperial, like I used to have. That also made me sad. Then I found 'em on ebay!

There are a lot of vintage ones, but also brand new ones, w/2023 on the backs of their cards, so WTF amazOMG?
