Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan announced on Tuesday that he has left the GOP and officially joined the Democratic Party.
Just what the Democratic Party needs, another conservative.
I probably wouldn’t vote for him. But one less Republican vote and one less Republican candidate is always a good thing.
To be fair, they voted him out last year due to his support of Harris…
But yeah, that.
That support shows he was on the path…the same path so many other Republicans have been going down since 2016. This IS progress, even if it isn’t fast or powerful enough.
I’m behind on all the threads and all the news, apologies if this has been pointed out already.
Is Dr Oz mimicking his Dear Leader’s hair? Is this the Mar-a-lago look I’ve heard about?
This can happen when people switch from crudités to hambergers.
Though with enough crudités he might get the skin tone right.
This is hilarious. CA amd NY Republicans introduced a new bill to ban gerrymandering before the next census. Wonder why?
I have to say that I’m a little frustrated that most of the recent reporting related to this is completely failing to mention that gerrymandering, or even having the state legislature draw district boundaries at all, has been unconstitutional in California every since voters passed Proposition 20 in 2010. Districts are drawn by a 14-member “Citizen’s Redistricting Commission” made up of 5 Democrats, 5 Republicans and 4 people of neither party.
Proposition 20 passed with an overwhelming majority of the vote, both in red and blue counties across the state. It won a majority in 57 out of 58 counties, showing that it had pretty broad support. And despite some recent statements from Governor Newsom the legal language in the law is quite unambitious. There’s no reasonable argument to make that there’s some kind of loophole allowing the legislature to take over redistricting in between the 10 year census cycle.
Now you could certainly make the argument that the voters of California made a big mistake when passing this amendment, and that for the fate of the nation it should be undone. But if that’s the case it absolutely is the right and responsibility of the voters to make that decision, not Newsom or the legislature.
Definitely. He’s even added a little blonde color to the mix.
Party of greedy old pedos at it again.
Hey, asshole, it’s not about representing states. It’s supposed to be about representing people. Representatives are supposed to have constituents. But i absolutely see how a fascist would struggle with that concept.
Yeah, that’s what makes me so depressed about the idea of more “Blue” states doing aggressive gerrymandering of their own in response. I get the urgency in keeping the GOP from having an insurmountable and unfair majority in Congress, but actually representing people should be how the government works, not representing parties. The fact that Democratic-leaning voters are getting disenfranchised in one part of the country is not somehow made more fair or justifiable by disenfranchising Republican-leaning voters in another part of the country. “One person, one vote” should be our North Star in matters of Democracy. And I sure hope that we can find a way to keep pushing for that ideal while also fighting fascism.
As the saying goes:
Land. Doesn’t. Vote.
Mike Johnson is broke and can’t afford to pay his rent on his measly Speakers salary, his wife’s income and his outside income.
He’s the perfect person to be in charge of the federal budget!
