Velder, an energetic 76-year-old, who took over the business 26 years ago from an English family, paid 975 guilders (about €440 or £376) rent a month in 1999. Now she expects a monthly bill of up to €4,500, backdated to last September, after a legal dispute with her landlord. That was reduced from €6,000 by an independent arbiter, but still represents a hefty increase on the €3,000 she pays now.

Johannes Wilhelm, a 63-year-old local businessman, who had cycled over for some lapsang souchong, described ‘t Zonnetje’s imminent disappearance as a real pity. “There are a lot of cheese and Nutella-pancakes and all kinds of tourist shops. Tourists are fine [and] good. But this should be here as well,” he said.

Sorry for replying months later, but that Guardian article is almost maliciously uncurious about its subject matter. It’s comparing high quality US satellite photos from 1965 to today’s pictures, without ever mentioning why there happen to be a load of American military satellite photos of Indonesia in 1965.

Let’s just say that the tone of “look at how nice it used to be” is a little misplaced, here.

Would such tourists be tourons?

I’m having a difficult time figuring out why someone would want to visit USA right now as a tourism destination. Most dangerous tourist places usually do whatever is on their hand to ensure tourists are unharmed (sometimes even in detriment of their own citizens) to protect the cash inflow. USA goverment has always been a bit hostile (specially after 9/11) but never so overtly contrarian as it is now.

So are the ones who’re staying after their visa is up morons for staying or for coming?

I suspect that this will be the least well attended World Cup in history… at least the games played in the US…

Pretty much only right wing assholes would want to come here for fun right now.

Good thing (well, not “good” good) there are a lot of right wing assholes in football culture!

(They’re not usually the ones that are super welcome at World Cups, though)

And summer arrived to yellowstone. It cannot begin without a goring.

You should start the touronleague:

  • 2 points for goring incidents
  • 3 points for bathing in the forbidden water incidents
Double if they did not survive.

And then separate it by state, or something…

This video features bonus footage of other stupid people.

Where TF are all these idiots coming from?! It wasn’t all that long ago when this shit only V rarely happened, and everyone was horrified by their stupidity. It’s now become far too common.

Who TF raises their children to think all animals are approachable?!

I was explaining to my spanish friends about “bathing in the forbidden waters of yellowstone”… and someone told me is not only yellowstone:

TLDR: There’s an exhausted tungsten mine that stored the runouts in a lake that is colored with a beautiful “Wolfram Blue” color. Instagrammers are going there and taking photos partially submerged in the corrosive toxic waters and getting skin irritation and other various sicknesses, despite THE NUMEROUS SIGNS POINTING THAT IS TOXIC.
