The Trans Experience

This is true. I have some mild dysphoria when it comes to my shoulders. I avoided tank tops for the first few years of my transition. This summer’s been so hot that I started wearing them and was surprised they make me feel less dysphoric than when I’m wearing a t-shirt.

I’d like to report a very positive experience with a local hair place I went to last Friday; they were listed in the ‘strands for trans’ database, and the stylist and I hit it off immediately. We (and the stylist and her client in the chair next to us) fangirled for a couple minutes over the MURDERBOT show, I got compliments on my Bee skirt, and ended up with braided pigtails. (Which idiot me undid later that night, because ignorance- I’m getting those re-done ASAP.)

Plus there was this cute little dog with white fur, but its hair was dyed BRIGHT pink, and was super friendly.

And breaking OpSec here: It’s Tantrum Hair Salon in Mesa, AZ

A++++++++++, will visit again, as in “I’ve already booked my next session”

This trans journalist wrote from prison on a contrabrand cellphone. Now she’s a Pride grand marshal.

Christy Perez risked her life with every word she published. She says it was all worth it.

I feel that. I was 52! It’s never too late.

as i transition in my 40s my body is making two changes at once: one of age and one of sex. in some ways it gets younger, in some ways it gets older, and in yet other ways it simply changes.

simultaneously it is both a second dawn and a reminder of sunset. i think this is okay.

Today is International Allyship Day 🩷 :handshake: :transgender_flag:

The flag in this post is the Trans Ally Flag

It’s a symbol of active, vocal support for trans rights and acceptance — not just quietly agreeing, but standing up and showing up.

At NION Women, we are staunch allies to the trans+ community.

We reject discrimination, division, and attempts to speak “in our name” against our trans siblings. Our message is clear: Not in our name.

We call on other cis women trans allies to stand with us. If you believe trans rights are human rights:

I don’t think i ever held Caitlyn Jenner in any kind of esteem, low or high. Seeing how her and her family were chasing fame and headlines early on was enough for me to erase them all from my reality filter.

Last night I thought I was going to Chicago for a stop on a book tour by Charlie Jane Anders. When I got there I was a week early, but stayed for the story telling event that was being held and had a wonderful time. (This wasn’t the event I had planned, but I’m glad I came here anyway.)

Women and Children First bookstore is in Andersonville, a very lovely and queer positive area in Chicago. When I parked I noticed the two people wearing furry tails and rainbow accessories outside the bar I’d parked next too. As I got out, one of them said how much she loved my vanity plate (“BIGWOOF”) and I told them both how much I liked their outfits. It was a nice friendly exchange and really typical for what I’ve encountered in that neighborhood – it’s always affirming to me!

After the event, I headed back over to my car and saw that the crowd spilling out of the bar was almost exclusively trans fems, many with furry type accessories or other amazing outfits. I stopped and talked to someone wearing beautiful deer antlers close to my car, explaining I had been there for a different event, but “What’s this gathering because this is very much my kind of crowd!”

She explained it was “Doll’s Night” at the bar, a trans fem takeover that happens every Thursday night. I laughed and said I would definitely keep that in mind for the future. She then asked if I was there for the Charlie Jane Anders event. I explained I was, but then told her about the mix up on the dates. As it turned out, she’s a friend of Charlies, so that’s just one more point for the interconnectedness of some of my communities.

I love the support I get from my cis friends and family, and a lot of my friends are trans, but there’s something very positive about seeing that many of us being out, loud, and proud! :transgender_flag:
