Key Findings
LGBT adults were more likely than non-LGBT adults to experience food insecurity and to rely on SNAP.
- 18% of LGBT adults experienced food insecurity in the past year, compared to 14% of non- LGBT adults.
- 15% of LGBT adults relied on SNAP benefits in the past year, compared to 11% of non-LGBT adults. This difference is largely due to higher rates of poverty and disability among LGBT adults as compared to non-LGBT adults. Almost seven in 10 LGBT adults who received SNAP benefits had household incomes under $35,000, two-thirds were living with a disability, and nearly half had a child under 18 living in the household.

Nearly 2.1 million LGBT adults rely on SNAP. This includes approximately:
- 1.3 million LGBT adults living with a disability
- 1.3 million lesbian and bisexual women
- 900,000 LGBT adults who have children under 18 in their household
- 500,000 cisgender gay and bisexual men
- 250,000 transgender adults
Expanding work requirements will create additional barriers to applying for and maintaining SNAP benefits for LGBT adults, many of whom were already working, in school, or were unable to work.
- Over 90% of LGBT adults who received SNAP benefits (91%) were either currently working (42%), had worked in the past year (6%), were students (8%), homemakers (9%), retired (5%), or were unable to work (21%).
- The remaining were LGBT adults who reported that they had not worked in the past year (8%).2

This teacher was outed by his husband’s obituary. Then he was fired for being gay.
He said his employer knew he was gay and it was a “disgruntled” parent who learned about his late husband and raised a stink.

The U.S. in February withdrew from the Human Rights Council. The Trump-Pence administration in 2018 pulled the U.S. from it. The U.S. in 2021 regained a seat on the Human Rights Council.

Remember those queer people that were screaming how the cishets would accept them if only the dirty trans people were kicked out of the group?
Yeah, that’s exactly what I expected, really. Two targets left: do they go after lesbians because some gay men still have some usefulness to the GOP (see that other story about the fucking log cabin republicans) or do they kick out the gay men because lesbians are only doing it for the enticement of men?
(Just in case it wasn’t clear.)
Alternate title: the new kapos welcome their commandants.

They’ll move on to directly attacking butch lesbians for not conforming to Republican standards of femininity, instead of indirectly attacking them with transphobia. Eventually lesbian will mean cishet women who don’t have sex with men.
It’s what the TERs did in the 1970s and 80s.

They will save L for last because so many of them have porn addictions centered on them. At least, the conventionally fem presenting ones. But you are correct, they will find a way to lump butch L with G and off to the camps with them. God, I hate this timeline.

I’m hardly the first to point it out, but for decades many “traditional” porn producers have featured women with women, but still consider those to be “straight” porn while refusing to touch men with men. (The rest of us simply don’t exist, of course.) It’s as if women don’t have sexuality at all unless men are involved somehow. 
Skin tone, gender, size, disability, and many others … all of these get their share of “chasers,” people that only see one aspect of us and fixate on that alone without ever seeing the human that goes along with that trait. The hate that flares up as soon as you reject them is amazing; the turn from “oh, you’re so beautiful” to “you’re lucky I gave you attention at all, you /pick your slur/” is inevitable (and predictable.)
The fact that it’s also dangerous and often deadly is why many of us are so wary of letting strangers into our lives.
