Transphobic events

Yeah, but… Do you think Wu knows that? I’m not sure how up she is on the fatwas on LGBQT+ issues, or even cares about the nuances of differing views within Islam itself… She likely just knows that “Islam is scary and bad and wrong” and goes with that…

Pat Robertson was convinced by a friend who was a physician that treated trans patients. I know of no linking that to erasing gay people. I have the news stories somewhere on the archive drive.

The Ayatollah’s acceptance of transgender medical care did not come out of a plan to erase gay people- which is not to say that doesn’t happen. It was preceded by his support for surgery on intersex individuals long before he was in power. He allowed trans surgery after being petitioned by a trans woman. There was a long history of gender diverse people in Iran.

“ There is evidence of third genders existing in civilisations in the region that is now Iran dating back thousands of years. A 2018 study of burial sites at Teppe Hasanlu found that around 20% of the tombs did not conform to a binary gender-divided distribution of artifacts or showed signs of the buried having performed masculine roles while wearing feminine dressing (or vice-versa).”

This is not the first time he discussed the issue. If memory serves - that was with a Dr Edgerly(sp?) who he knew & treated trans folks. He has backtracked on his previously more accommodating opinions on trans people since then, of course.

There’s often stories about far right people supporting trans people that are used to undermine us - that often prove to just be propaganda. Like when TERFs were saying that trans surgery was developed by Nazis- when in fact trans people were the first victims of Nazis.

And here I thought the trans civil rights movement was about trans civil rights. I guess that’s an easy mistake to make.

As a nonbinary person I think gender is just fine, it’s just not supposed to be some kind of weapon to oppress people with

The bulk of the bills so far come from Texas and Missouri, two of the earlier states that release prefilled legislation ahead of the 2025 session. However, states like South Carolina, New Hampshire, Georgia, Wyoming, and Montana all feature multiple anti-LGBTQ+ bills, with more being added every day. Thirteen states in all have seen anti-trans bills filed: Alabama, Arizona, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas, Washington, and Wyoming.

This year, several state bills aim to strip legal recognition from transgender people entirely.

For British people:

My faith in the UK government is so low that I expect it to be dismissed, or we get another TER led hatchet job. I would like to be wrong though, so I signed it.

“No service member should have to decide between their family’s health care access and their call to serve our nation,” except trans service members (or service members with trans children), apparently. But as usual, they don’t count. Trans people aren’t people, and don’t do anything, they exist purely to terrify TERFs and Republicans with no other life or goals or needs beyond that.
