“Protect them” from other cis women and girls who are not sufficiently conventionally feminine presenting. Policing women’s bodies is always what this is about. And the vast majority of those hurt by it will be cis women and girls.

I’ve been using the appropriate restroom since maybe before she was born.

It’s harmed her grievously?

It’s fucking enraging someone couldn’t just say the truth: trans women ARE women. It’s just the truth, no matter what that bigot mace attempts to argue. All she’s doing is punching down on other women.

And the other panelists should have said something or refused to collaborate with her.

Yep, absolutely… I’m so sick of these refusals to push back against this kind of bigotry… if she started going on about Jewish people being a threat, or POC, or whoever, this would get forceful pushback. People WOULD refuse to work with her and call her out… There is no reason NOT to do so for trans people, except for the fact that far too many are willing to throw the trans community under the bus for their own god damn comfort.

I am so sick of living in such an amoral society. We know what the right thing to do is, and far too many of us refuse to do it.

Here’s the whole thread:

This is deeply concerning. Littman, famed for the junk theory on “ROGD”, is teaming up with J Michael Bailey and Ken Zucker on a new “study”. And they’re going through Northwestern University–the host of the recent International Trans Studies Conference–to do it.

We already know it will be awful. All you have to do is look at their past “work”. Bailey, for instance, had his last paper retracted for failing to get informed consent from participants. Which was stilted anyway because it surveyed Parents of ROGD Kids! Junk-Science journal republishes retracted anti-trans paper

Littman was forced to correct her famous “ROGD” paper for similar reasons: she surveyed anti-trans parents without being transparent about it. She wasn’t transparent about her recruitment sources for her detransition paper either - we had to do that for her. https://healthliberationnow.com/2021/10/21/littman-tries-to-prove-rogd-by-surveying-detransitioners-fails-spectacularly/

Zucker, meanwhile, had his clinic shut down after an external review (commissioned by CAMH, which oversaw it) found it was subjecting trans youth to controlling, damaging practices that has been described by former patients as conversion therapy. Why the closing of Toronto's CAMH gender clinic matters | Xtra Magazine

All three of these researchers have professional investment in maintaining anti-trans positions. But we also question just how effective this would even be. Lumping trans youth in with parental responses is already hairy, but especially so if your work is best known in anti-trans parent networks!

Given Littman’s past failures in this department, and how Bailey had his last “study” retracted due to ethical violations, this new one will be just as terrible. Trans professionals and activists should be on guard, and Northwestern should be ashamed of itself for approving this nonsense.

You would think that Northwestern would know better than to sanction research by a guy they had bust down from supervising and teaching graduate students and classes above the introductory level for past incidents and research concerns.

Including reportedly having sex with a trans woman who was a (was it a research subject or patient? I forget), presenting research subjects in stigmatizing ways etc.

Oh yes - and the “fuck saw” incident. There’s some nice imagery about his views on women.

I posted my opinion on the whole bathroom debacle when it first started getting national attention back in June or July of last year over on Tumblr.

(The executive summary: If I’m going to the bathroom, it’s to dump out pee or poop, not gawk at who has what under their clothes, not hold a fucking meeting, nothing. I might fix something with my hair, makeup, or clothing, but that’s IT, and I expect the same from others in there.)

What a garbage human. Every transphobic shit she posts is yet another few bucks she gets in donations, too.

God, do I hate this timeline where we have to be subjected to such grifting pieces of shit on a regular basis.

Anticipatory obedience is taking hold everywhere. The big companies as well as more local things, getting their heads down to try to avoid the notice of the fascists. Guarantee there will be a concerted effort to find examples to be made and heads to be mounted on walls. I suspect they know the blow-back will be severe, and so are making every effort to eliminate the opposition before that happens.

I take some small comfort in knowing that my workplace will be a target of such hunts. I mean, I don’t want anyone hurt, but there’s something … uplifting? reassuring? … that at least some libraries are saying flat out “We Will Not Comply.” The American Library Association (ALA) stopped playing nicely about this several years ago, talking less and less about “book challenges” and openly calling them “book banners.”

Book Riot has been having more and more articles on dealing with increasing censorship and staying ahead of the attacks. The latest being “Prepare Your Library Before January Arrives” and talking about protecting vulnerable populations within our patrons and staff.

Fuck anticipatory obedience. We’re already planning to resist compulsory obedience; we’ve done it before. (e.g.; “You want patron records showing who’s been reading that material? Oh, so sorry, we don’t retain that information.”)

Though I’m not sure it takes much for Walmart to go fash. A slight breeze, maybe.
