Good to hear that in general, the field seems to be giving the false god of objectity a good beat down these days.
We’ll see if the field can withstand the current era with it’s humanity intact. I suspect that there might be more Heidiggers vs. Arendts in various history departments (at least some of the high profile ones).
About 9-10 years ago, I went to a concert of an original ska/rocksteady/reggae (he bridged all of those genres) artist whose name unfortunately I cannot recall, in London. I was quite surprised, seeing a bunch of 60+ year olds white folks with shaved heads, bomber jackets and boots, but it was obvious after 15 minutes that these were OG skins, that first wave who just loved west indian music and culture.
I wish I remembered who I went to see, as he was awesome, not a big guy, but he had silver dreads that hung to his ankles, and still loved performing
Holy shit, talk about tone deaf…
Yeah, “cannabis users” must be like, Number 48 on the Elimination List.
And of course, whatever persecution they’ve faced has mostly been mild at best compared to the threats faced by others, then and now.
And also, using it is a choice, not a – gaah, the idiocy, it burns!
I mean, I’m all for legalization and I know that cops do shit like plant stuff on people so they can arrest them… and yeah, it’s a real problem, especially for Black men… but it’s not to the level of nazi shit…
Indeed!
This isn’t a rebuttal, but there are actually people here in the UK who cannot obtain cannabis tinctures for severe seizure conditions, and cannabis is basically the only medicine which functions, and has little to no serious side effects (down from 25+ daily seizures to 3 or 4 a week).
This wanker is not one of those people though.
Yes, no doubt! It’s disgusting and dismaying that even “medicinal” dispensations in such cases are often forbidden.
I’ve wondered about that in the UK. In the US, outlawing cannabis has roots in racism. What’s the big taboo or stigma about it based on in the UK, I wonder? Racism again, or ?
Yep, racism.
Really need that facepalm emoji
Murican provincialism, in a nutshell hamberder.
I hope so. So hard to tell these days.
I think so, but yeah, it is hard to tell.
Cattle ranchers’ pockets, or Cargill and their ilk? Because I have a great deal of sympathy for people who own, touch, work with and care for their cattle and land directly. That’s hard fucking work.
Cargill can get bent, though, and then broken up and redistributed. Sigh, if only.
This reminds me of a conversation I had with a rep from USA Rice. He was complaining bitterly that Japan wouldn’t buy rice grown in the US, and always came up with a new requirement that US growers and distributors would have to meet.
I tried to explain to him that Japan would never allow large imports of rice. It didn’t matter the quality or price: it was a food sovereignty issue. That, as an island nation, and after the suffering experienced during WWII Japan would never allow themselves to become dependent on imports for their main staple crop.
He came soooooo close to understanding, but didn’t quite make it.
