Um.... what.... aka, this is the dumbest thing I've ever read

Whether it is good for me is debatable. Whether it is good for the people around me, however, is not.

So what does he do in the other hour? After the two minutes of AI and the 58 minutes of coffee?

Maybe he opens, say, a maths puzzle book and looks at the answers at the back and convinces himself he’s a genius at maths and those fools who work it out are losers unlike his l33t self.

Probably tries to avoid being noticed by the overseer agent - it hates to see people taking a break instead of working. :grimacing:

A real cop doesn’t want to “raise the temperature?” Um… maybe someone should ask George Floyd about that…

A cop knocking on someone’s door and being chill about not being catered to immediately? What fantasy world is that person living in?

My guess is that it’s a white upper/upper-middle class fantasy world. Rich people can “raise the temperature” all they want.

i mean, tell me you’ve never interacted with an angry cop, without telling me…

Full headline: " Kentucky man arrested for releasing a raccoon into a business months after fleeing police on a mule"

Sadly, the two incidents aren’t directly related, aside from being the same guy. But the string of incidents are pretty dang dumb…

On June 6, 2025, Murray Police Department responded to a call that a person had intentionally released a raccoon into an open business, and that he had fled the scene.

Mason was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Criminal Trespassing 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, and Failure of Owner to Maintain Required Insurance 1st Offense.

In December 2024, Murray Police Department responded to a local bar after an “unruly individual”, who had been asked to leave was refusing to do so. Officers found Murray outside the business under the influence of alcohol.

Mason had ridden a mule to the establishment and refused to stop when ordered by an officer. Authorities say Mason resisted as the officer continued to try to place him under arrest.

Just two days after the mule incident, Mason was arrested once more for attempting to flee police while riding the mule down the roadway intoxicated. He was charged with Fleeing or Evading Police 3rd Degree and Cruelty to Animals 2nd Degree.

I had absolutely no idea what you were talking about until just now when I finally noticed the date the summarizer put on it…

Very odd, when it should have been 10 Jun.

Yeah, looks like a date format string or locale screwup. 6/10 vs 10/6

There is now a legal route in the UK for the species to be reintroduced. Despite this and the risks of acting without licences, activists whose names have been changed were unrepentant and said they were taking action themselves because the legal option was “too bureaucratic”.

When challenged over his actions, Ben said: "I’m unfamiliar with species of animals or species of wildlife, plants or animal that would be badly affected by the presence of beavers… they can reduce risk of flooding, mitigate the damage that a drought can bring. They can help to clean up water.

“What’s not to like about this?”

He said secrecy was key in everything from where other parts of the network got the animals - “we really don’t need to know” - to the clandestine releases.

“You don’t want to be caught with a box of beavers in the boot so you have to be quite quick,” Ben said.

“You open the door, do it and drive away. They are instantly much happier in the water.”

Reintroducing animals known for massively modifying their environments into a previously extinct niche in the dead of night in random places, what could possibly go wrong?

[edit] Also:

Asked about the difficulties beavers could cause for farmers and landowners, she added: "I can understand why it is scary to some people… but there are so many ways that you can maintain control.

"If the landowner wants to protect particular trees, you can make sure that beavers don’t fell an individual tree.

“You can control the water level even and I think beavers can actually bring benefits to farmland too.”

Super simple things to do when you have no reason to expect the beavers to be there in the first place. I’m all for repopulating extinct species, but these folks seem to take the “once out of our hands, they’re somebody else’s problem” approach.
