I have not watched Hank’s video yet… will do so this evening…
Video Title: The Worst (And BEST!) Election Takes I’ve Seen So Far
As usual, Hank takes a thoughtful approach to this rather than trying to focus on things that confirm his feelings.
It felt a bit like work watching this.
John Green went to my high school, Indian Springs School. That’s the school my dad taught at and where I grew up.
John’s first book, Looking for Alaska, is set on the campus of my high school.
He is about 10 years younger than me; I never met him.
He’s spoken about the school quite a bit.
Here he is talking about his class’s campus prank. This is a school tradition, but his class did it waaaay better than mine.
My dad wrote a book about the history of Indian Springs and it’s was a goal of mine to get John Green involved in promoting and rewriting the book (not him rewriting it, but I have a person who knows the history of Birmingham, AL, and his a good writer who could do the work; he is also closely tied to the school). However, after putting some effort into reading it, I decided I didn’t want to spend my energy moving the project forward, even though I felt it had commercial appeal, especially to his audience.
I’m so proud of the VLOG Brothers and the great work they are doing and my tangental relationship to them.
One question about fame is about how one uses it… some can focus on self-aggrandizement or one can focus on community improvement. I don’t regret spending money each year for pizzamas and for some fun socks, if they really do improve the lives of other people on this weird rock spinning through space… plus, I love my socks. I wear them almost every day.
