My local progressive group is trying to get a Confederate statue moved from in front of the county court house (because a justice system, such as it is, shouldn’t commemorate slavery and oppression). The question is where to move it to. The current best proposal is to a cemetary where it can join other war memorials and symbols of oppression. The people running the cemetary are not wild about this. My (half-joking) suggestion was to maybe buy a plot – they’re advertising plots for sale, and we have money – and either use the statue as a headstone or bury the thing outright.
