Wanderthread Redux (Part 1)

Yglesias is a tricksy centrist who occasionally fakes left, so take this with a grain of salt, but some interesting (albeit unsurprising) stats in this:

Assuming things continue as they are, with the media and party establishment successfully handing the nomination to Biden:

  1. Biden loses.

  2. Dems respond to Trump’s reelection by shifting even further right.

  3. Left begins some serious resistance; some “respectable” (e.g. strikes etc), some less “respectable” (e.g. nonviolent direct action, underground railroad for ICE targets, etc), some actively subversive (e.g. serious revolutionary shit).

  4. Dems collaborate with Trump in the suppression of all of the above. Fascism entrenches and accelerates.

So pretty much exactly like 2016 but more.

My thought was, the Democratic party is trying to fight a garbage fire with garbage fire.

Unstated but true: one in five Labour/Remain voters are also utter scum.

History I didn’t know:

Winfield Scott, the Whig candidate in 1852, was the bastard responsible for executing the captured survivors of the St Patrick’s Battalion.

Plenty of current relevance in that election.
