Wow. Gingrich is literally, unambiguously suggesting a return to McCarthyism.
I mean, I know they’ve been dogwhistling it for a while now, but it’s just surprising to see someone come out and actually say that’s what they want. That the Overton window has shifted so much to the right that they’re comfortable cloaking white supremacy and calls for genocide in the mantle of free speech, while blacklisting celebrities at the mere suspicion of sympathy towards whoever-the-enemy-of-the-day-is would be okay.
I’m not surprised that’s how they feel; I’m shocked and horrified that it’s gotten to the point where they feel comfortable saying it publicly.
Of course he is… Gingrich is a real piece of work.
As I’ve been advocating from the beginning: you don’t shift the Overton Window from the centre, you do it by bashing at the margins.
That’s what Gingrich is doing, that’s what the street Nazis are doing, that’s what Trump is doing. Today it’s unthinkable, tomorrow it’s shocking, next week it’s normal. Boiling the frog.
They call it cake, but they’re feeding us lies.
