(this is all in response to the Noam vs Brie argument on the latest episode of the Bad Faith podcast)
Incidentally, my view is mixed on this.
- Yes, the consequence of leftist votes for Democrats is that the Dems ignore leftist issues.
- OTOH, the “force Dems left by withholding votes” theory also doesn’t work. Because (a) the Dems don’t care if they lose, so long as the left remains suppressed, and (b) even if it did work, we do not have the decades required for such a strategy to take effect. We’re out of time.

While lesser-evil voting in the USA may have some marginal damage-limitation effect, electoralism in general is an ineffective dead end in American politics. The system can not be reformed; it must be replaced.
