The main current enviro fight in Tasmania is over a proposed expansion of a mine in the Tarkine wilderness in western Tasmania. Small numbers of protesters are trying blockades and the Tas Greens are regularly issuing press releases and making parliamentary statements on the matter.

The mine is currently owned by a Chinese company.

The Tas Greens have taken to prominently emphasising the Chinese ownership of the mine every time they mention it.

In other circumstances, if anyone else were doing that, they’d be calling it out as the racist dogwhistle it is obviously intended as.

US Presidents have been ordering the US military to shoot protesters for decades.

But most Americans think that those don’t count, because non-Americans aren’t real people to them.
