Apart from some seats where the Lib/Nat Coalition agree not to compete with each other, all significant Australian parties run candidates in every electorate of every election. There is always an ALP candidate, always a Greens candidate, always at least one Lib or Nat candidate.
Back during the Orange Wave of 2011, the NDP ran a bunch of unknowns in Quebec, just for the sake of having a candidate in every riding, and, because of the popularity of Jack Layton and the unpopularity of the other leaders in that province, a bunch of them got elected (some of whom didn’t actively campaign and weren’t fluent in French).
