Historical factoid I picked up from Jeopardy the other day:
Lee was invited to visit the White House in 1869, treated as a distinguished guest.
Hey, they were both military men, an’ wanted to, you know, talk.
Poor Grant. I feel kinda bad for him cos he was never really intended to be POTUS, but chee - resistin’ all the flattery musta been hard for him.
So, I wonder - why’s he got a Tomb an’ all the rest of the “heroes” just get buildings? Kinda weird, eh? (i’m-a look it up)
Addendum: Because the William R. Grace, the Mayor of New York at the time offered it to Lucy Grant? U. S.'s only stip was that he & Lucy be buried together, and military cemeteries didn’t allow women to be interred in their grounds.
Awwwww - white people who think they’re oppressed thinking about violence over their inability to deal with their own creations! It’s so cute when they do that!
