I like Gabbard, but she a centrist to right of center politician who still believes in targeted strikes on terrorists. I feel from a total package her view makes more sense because the non-intervention in regime changes means less grounds for terrorists to breed and less reason for them to come to power so it will result in less drone strikes or special forces use. However, there’s that lengthy article in Jacobin making sure everyone knows she is not a true progressive on any of these issues.
Good analysis of internal Iranian politics.
What Manning did wasn’t bad at all, the problem was in the unfettered release of the information which is a Wikileaks problem. There’s a reason Snowden didn’t do it the same way
Wikileaks certainly fucked Chelsea over; they accidentally leaked a major portion and “lost” the most important part.
Assange is a douche.
Yeah, it’s pretty clear to me that Assange (and others) worked to woo Manning into delivering the leak while making sure only they (Wikileaks) were protected from the backlash while Manning was left exposed and basically the sole scapegoat. I have run across a lot of Wikileaks supporters criticizing her leak while praising the publishing of the leaks, which is something i really don’t get.
I mean, public opinion about Iraq and Afghanistan was already sliding beforehand but it seems like the cross-political affiliation anti-war support from the public seems to stem from the discussion about them.
