Rough sleeping is an increasing problem but this is gesture politics and won’t address the root causes. Giving the homeless housing is a necessary but not sufficient step to keeping them off the street. You also need to address the problems that put them there, and the problems that keep them there. A lot of homeless have substance abuse problems and/or mental health problems and/or have lived very chaotic lives so they don’t have the skills and resources to maintain a tenancy.
Far better to look at what the (Labour, but not part of the Corbyn cult) mayor of Manchester Andy Burnham is doing, which includes some fairly intensive support with the homes.

Not entirely.
The UK is FPP, and although they’re still a mostly two-party system, they usually maintain a real ideological distinction between the parties (except when a treacherous scumbag like Blair gets into power).
