Interesting thread and comments:
I don’t know what to make of it.
On one hand, judging by 1st world war data, people hit by poison gas are more likely to survive than people hit by fragmentation. So chemical warfare might be a less butcherous form of warfare.
On the other hand, if they’re shelling villages, the civilians are less likely to have gas protection.
On one foot, there’s something seriously wrong about first helping Saddam Hussein with gas attacks, then invading Iraq because of a cancelled chemical weapons program, then bombing Syria because of gas attacks, and then ignoring gas attacks…
For the casualty data, see Bernard Rostker, Providing for the Casualties of War, table 7.1.
That’s a great thread and only mildly spoilery! Some food for thought, for sure.
Consider for a moment how this sort of thing appears to the non-US world:
I wonder if anyone interfered with:
– the vote totals.
– the voter registration databases, I believe there are reports that someone hacked into them.
– the voter registrations again, selectively purging people who followed some of the front groups.
Well, we know for certain that the GOP fucked with voter registration: they’re quite open about it. And there are suggestions that the Dems went in for similar bastardry during the primaries.
As for the Russians, no significant evidence that I’m aware of so far.
A genuine tankie getting righteously dunked on:
