Bacchus and drugs are an attempt to turn everyone into men!
Whaaaa?
Does this King guy mean like the TCM Wine Club?
At first glance, it seems to me that it’s a reference to marijuana legalization and ending the war on drugs.
See, I always relate Dionysius/Bacchus with the grape, not the leaf.
Okay, having explored this guy’s Twitter (and thoroughly needing a shower), it looks like this guy’s point is that Christianity that doesn’t place Jesus’s words in the context of Jewish tradition is equivalent to stripping out everything that makes Jesus distinct from the Greek gods, and the closest god in the Greek pantheon to the resultant deity would be Bacchus.
So, he’s saying that any Christian who preaches tolerance is disregarding Jewish law, and turning Jesus into his Greek equivalent, and that “The Left” has therefore become a “cult of Bacchus” by preaching a tolerant Christianity. It’s kind of the mirror of calling the right “the cult of Supply-Side Jesus,” or “the cult of Mammon.”
It’s all total bullshit, of course.
Thank you so much for explaining that for me. Please - feel free to go shower ASAP!
Remember this candidate?
Now:
It’s odd that this is the super contentious primary that is guaranteed to result in the GOP incumbent staying put. These are neoliberal suburbs where two rich ladies lead the race, and where the establishment candidate also has grassroots support on top of party/PAC support (and where the progressive is a long time DC socialite). Like, the JD know that their candidate is struggling to raise funds across town against a super establishment corporate Democrat in a race where the GOP incumbent vacated the seat but you never see them push that race at all and instead have spent the resources here. This is a district that is literally gerrymandered so Republican white people outnumber minorities to cancel out their vote, while TX-7 isn’t.
I just have a hard time being stirred up in this particular political drama as a local, because J. Darnell Jones could really use the progressive vamping since the primary is a couple weeks away.
Then again, if the Democrats were not focused in TX-7 then they would be pushing other establishment Dems instead.
