It’s almost like sweeping legislation to change the fundamental rights of a citizen as part of a tyrannical government’s control over the citizens requires the tyrannical government to have comeplete control over the government to begin with. Hell, Honduras literally just happened and the entirety of the government take over was from a single party stacking partisans in the court system to target their political rivals (literally a plank of the GOP national platform).

BTW, I realise that one seems a bit weird from an Australian. But to add context:

  1. Despite NRA propaganda, guns are not banned in Australia.
  2. Our military is comparatively tiny.
  3. Our cops are not yet militarised (although they’re shifting that way now).
  4. We still appear to have a reasonable amount of democratic influence over our state.
