This is an aside, just making sure that’s known.
The market crash meant US median per capita (a minor distinction from the tweet) incomes hit its lowest point in 2011 with $28.5K and has mostly recovered with 2016 being recorded at $31.1K which is a sizable jump and is the highest it has been in decades - and it means the median household incomes are actually pretty solid.
The problem is exactly what is being talked about - stable multi-income households are doing fine (not well, livable) even in the working class. The problem is that accounts for a sizable chunk of the working class, but means the half that are single parents or disabled or whatever else are doing much, much worse. And taking the average income into account the prosperity in the United States is still drifting slowly and steadily into the wealthiest few with the bare minimum being maintained for what would be considered the model white working class household.
