I watched the documentary about Booker’s mayoral run a while back… it’s meant to be an uplifting story of a politician fighting against entrenched interests and corruption in Newark… what I saw was a middle class black man waging a campaign of respectability against a working class community who had historically been disenfranchised for a long time… To me, he came across as an outsider trying to impose his ideas on a community that he didn’t know very well at the time. I assume he became more familiar with the community after that, but none the less…
