Yah; the real Antifa radicals were pretty pissed off about the fake Boston Antifa Russia bullshit. Liberal promotion of that was playing straight into the fascist’s hands.
Good list of Twitter accounts to follow if you’re interested in the moderate activist PoC left:
Sure, but the one you linked was men lecturing women about their reaction to men lecturing women. So it literally fell into the camp of a criticism of the left dismissing the opinion of women primarily because of their gender. disco_socialist literally starts with “I bet she doesn’t even consider trans women women,” framing the entire argument as a man lecturing a woman on not being feminist correctly based on an assumption that wasn’t true.
So he 1) dismissed a criticism of a woman, 2) did it in a mysogenistic fashion, and 3) actually was the one suppressing a discussion of how legislation has suppresssed women’s right through medicine. What’s worse is that the discussion that he was critiquing ended up being entirely relevant to where the left and centrists easily cross over, but his critique was an effort to shit that down. Luckily, that discussion ignored him being an idiot.
Crazy Toad Lady and Tenji95’s comments were from the link I posted.
As always, though, links do not imply endorsement. With these left vs liberal squabble posts, I’m trying to track how the power struggle within the party is progressing.
I’m obviously of the socialist faction, but I don’t necessarily agree with everything everyone does. Disco’s TERF comment was dickish. But it was incidental snark rather than the central issue.
“Poverty is a feminist issue” is not a radical or novel concept. I find it hard to believe that anyone who has given serious thought to healthcare and feminism is unaware of the strong correlations between gender, poverty and health.
Twitter is an unmoderated forum; social norms there are a lot rougher than here. This applies to liberal Twitter just as much as left Twitter, as shown in some of my links upthread.
Repeating what I said upthread: the liberal/socialist fight is no longer about forming an alliance. They’re both going for the kill.
I can’t think of a better place to post this. Read the thread:
They’re stepping up because the American Red Cross fell down. (As a Canadian, ARC’s failure is unsurprising: there is a reason we have Canadian Blood Services and the Red Cross is banned from taking blood donations in Canada).
Anarchism in action.
The anarchists have been surprisingly impressive over the last year. The times suit them.
