Ever since Charlottesville, there’s been a basic pattern of one major shock per week, usually on the weekend. Not a perfect rhythm, but that’s the basic tune.

It’s the frog-boiling thing. Every time it happens, the shocking becomes a little more normal. Things that would have been major shocks six months ago are now just background wallpaper.
