Inspiration for this perhaps.
Until 4, the local alternative station is playing 80s music, commercial free, for their resurrection sunday showâŚ
Yes. They more or less admitted it last year (well denied it and boasted about it) and this year the Spanish vote was particularly important for them. Their social media accounts are all going âsee? Those countries that recognise Palestine? Itâs just the elites and the ordinary people love us and our beautiful country Israel! They gave us maximum points in the popular vote!â
Not that I saw it anyway because they kicked Russia out but didnât kick Israel out. This wonât go away though. The Eurovision is sponsored by âMoroccanâ oil (actually Israeli) by the way. Iâm sure the EBU will discover their spine when the sponsorship ends. Currently they are saying âthis is fine and we have the best voting integrityâ but nobody can possibly believe that.
Iâm gonna spoiler this one, because well, once youâve thought of this you canât unthink it. And maybe youâd rather not.
Iâm talking about The Zombies - Sheâs Not There. A song I heard so many times growing up. And just thought was a fun song.
I never realized the lyrics are so dark:
Well, no one told me about her
What could I do?
Well, no one told me about her
Though they all knew
But itâs too late to say youâre sorry
How would I know? Why should I care?
Please donât bother trying to find her
Sheâs not there!
And everything in the song is in the past tense. The way she looked, her voice was, her eyes were, etc.
I feel like Iâve ruined one of my childhood songs because now all I can think is âYes, youâve told us sheâs not there, now where did you put the body?â
Hmmm. I always thought it was song about a guy who loved a woman and everyone told him it wouldnât work out, and yep, it didnât work out. Heâs remembering everything about her: the way she looked, the way she spoke, but also that sheâs no longer around.
A lot of those 60s songs about women typically seemed very much in the same vein: dude loves a woman and she doesnât live him back.
I was late tuning in but CBS is showing an evening with Brandi Carlile and Elton John.
If you hurry you can catch the finale.
Iâm not a fan of Brandi but boy is she talented and Elton can still deliver the goods.
How many pairs of sunglasses Elton? Between 10 and 15 thousand.
I told D I needed to hear this song.
Much to my surprise, I began weeping as soon as it began.
D also found this:
The horns arenât at their finest, but I doubt they had V long to get it down. The little innerview after is quite sweet.
Wow! That ruled!
[ETA] And today is the 50th anniversary of Talking Heads playing at CBGBs, via the AV ClubâŚ
Iâve mentioned it a couple of times but been doing deep dives into various artists i like or am curious about by listening to their discography. For the last couple of days and today iâve been jamming out to The Decemberists and was delighted to find out they collaborated with an artist i love (Shara Nova, the main person of My Brightest Diamond).
The album in question from The Decemberists is Hazards Of Love, which is great. And she performs in two songs. âThe Wanting Comes in Waves/Repaidâ and âThe Queenâs Rebuke/The Crossingâ
Stand, they will try to make you crawl
And they know what youâre saying makes sense and all
What a banger. Been playing it a bit recently.
AMEN!
It sure is a great song. I remember Sly & Co from my childhood. We always listened to terrific music
I finally had that moment earlier today of encountering a new artist (to me) that felt like getting hit with a lightning bolt. Like within 2-3 seconds i just knew. I love this so much. I was listening to his first album while playing a game and a few times i just had to stop playing for a little bit and take it in. The artist is Cosmo Sheldrake, never heard of him until today and i donât know who this dude is but heâs amazing.
This short song just says âskeleton sailor vibesâ to me
âskeleton sailor vibesâ.
could it be more appropriate?
yeah! i hear that, too.
that will be my shop music for a while.
arrr!
I first heard this band very recently and knew nothing about them. I just checked out their website and saw their bio:
RAT BATH is an âAll noise no boysâ Queercore Punk band known for reclaiming queer-coded villians in their unique way of storytelling. Collecting accolades such The Milwaukee Recordâs Favorite Albums of the Year for three years in a row (22, 23, 24) and keeping a diligent tour schedule, this band of all transgender musicians has scurried their way into the hearts of many punk scenes across the continental US.
