Plus a robot hand looks really cool
Yeah, in the original trilogy we see three people fight with lightsabers, and two are missing a hand by the end. That doesnāt make them seem super safe. So this is more of a question about the other movies.
In the prequels, Jedi were trained from an early age, so you can suppose they were very careful to make sure they learned to watch their arms and legs. Maybe force powers why not! Plus I donāt think they did that much fighting before the clone wars, and when that happens most of them just die. Plus those movies were notā¦excellent writing. Iām not sure how much sense there is to be made of them.
In the new trilogy, well, at least Kylo Ren is smart enough to put a cross-guard on his lightsaber! Except heās also foolish enough to make it one that can slice your own hand off. I donāt know.
The third one didnāt fare too well, either.
I really donāt know how well that would work, just looking at the design of the hilt. It looks like if your opponentās blade slid that far down your own, itād just cut the cross-guard off, rather than being stopped by the extra side-blades.
I canāt find the clip, but I had seen this discussed by an expert, and they think itās actually one plasma stream that splits in the middle.
I accept Stephen Colbert as an expert.
I wonder if he has other hand attachments we just donāt see in the movies.
Does he have an immersion blender he can snap on for Jedi Smoothies?

What was not shown was the lucrative business of child amputee beggars the Jedi Temple āsponsoredā
Is there a Star Wars / Slumdog Millionaire crossover in the works?
Oooh, thatād be handy.
About to start on the 3rd book of the Broken Earth trilogy by NK Jemisenā¦ I have to say, her narrative twists have been really interesting. I donāt usually notice things like voice in books so much, but what sheās done in getting you to follow among different points of views is really great.
Finished Metropolis last night.
While there are differences taken by the film it did manage to keep the themes and story of the book well.
Joh Frederson the master of Metropolis is a much more complicated character in the book and his relationship with Rotwang and Hel is much more highlighted as to the cause of his troubles.
Joh actually instigates the destruction of Metropolis through the Maria/Robot as through his son he has seen what a mistake was made with the slave workers and his son disowning him over it.
Also hinted at the robot built by Rotwang at the request of Joh was supposed to be to replace the workers which is an interesting idea though Rotwang has a serious hate on for Joh because Joh wooed away Hel from him. Joh also has some scenes outside of the city with his mother.
The Freder/Maria story line plays out with only minor changes on the screen.
Josaphat the fired secretary is actually kidnapped to be taken away from Metropolis and has a minor adventure escaping from a plane and making his way back to Freder.
In all worth reading if you are a fan of the film that got made from it.
Interesting. Iāve often wondered if Thea von Harbou was worth reading. I think Iāll look this one up.
I remember now why I was so skeptical of Thea von Harbou. While Fritz fled, she stayed in Germany and aided the Nazi movie industry.
I wasnāt sold on Ted Chiangās āExhalationā at first. But āThe Truth of Fact, the Truth of Feelingā is such an honest story about anyone who has ever had a difficult relationship. Really worth reading the whole anthology for.
Just finished the first two stories. Mind boggling.
Nick was happy as he crawled inside the tent. He had not been unhappy all day. This was different though. Now things were done. There had been this to do. Now it was done. It had been a hard trip. He was very tired. That was done. He had made his camp. He was settled. Nothing could touch him. It was a good place to camp. He was there, in the good place. He was in his home where he had made it. Now he was hungry.
Now do Robbe-Grilletā¦
